MK Stalin Warns Educational Institutions Against Promoting Superstitions
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Saturday issued a stern warning to educational institutions across the state, cautioning that any effort to promote superstitious beliefs within campuses would face severe consequences from the government.
Speaking at an official event, Stalin emphasized that education must be firmly rooted in scientific reasoning and the principles of social justice. "Educational institutions should uphold a scientific mindset and social values. Any deviation from this will attract strict action from the government," he said.
The Chief Minister revealed that he has instructed university authorities to prepare a detailed action plan to align campus activities with these goals. He reiterated the importance of safeguarding educational spaces from regressive ideologies and unscientific practices.
"Education is the only wealth that cannot be stolen," Stalin declared, while cautioning students against being influenced by misleading promises of instant success. Criticizing the growing trend of social media personalities who claim success through shortcuts, he remarked, "Exceptions are not examples."
He urged students not to seek role models on social media, pointing out that Tamil Nadu's youth are already making strides in emerging fields like artificial intelligence, quantum technology, and advanced computing. “The world is vast, and education is the lens through which you can see and succeed in it,” he added.
Stalin also addressed academic integrity and policy matters, announcing the formation of a new committee led by a retired judge to oversee education reforms, following a favorable court verdict. “History will reflect on the significance of this report,” he said.
Highlighting Tamil Nadu’s academic accomplishments, he noted that the state leads the nation in the number of PhD scholars. “Our achievements in education are significant, but we must continue striving to meet global standards,” he said.
The Chief Minister took aim at certain central government initiatives, including the National Education Policy (NEP) and Vishwakarma Yojana, alleging they are designed to hinder students' educational progress. However, he reassured the public that his government remains committed to ensuring quality education for all. “No matter the obstacles, we will ensure you continue your education,” he affirmed.
Commenting on the ongoing debate over the balance of power between state governments and Governors, Stalin asserted that state legislative assemblies hold more authority, but denied that this indicates a political conflict. “We are committed to protecting our rights and continuing our governance with the people’s support,” he concluded.
