So I seriously suggest that if you're a final-year undergraduate, postgraduate at any level (MA/MSc/MRes, MPhil, PhD) or a university lecturer of any kind and from the UK, that you think about joining SCONUL.
It's a scheme which gives undergrads, postgrads, and lecturers access to the libraries and collections of almost every university in the UK for free.
You simply sign up, and once your application is approved (mine just came through this afternoon), all you do is print off the welcome email and take it with you, along with your home university library card or ID card, to the library you want to visit and hey presto - you're in.
A friend recommended it to me and I think it's a fantastic resource. This way, you can get into any university library in the country to use their stuff, meaning you're not limited to your home university. If there's something you need that isn't held at your home university library, joining SCONUL will allow you to gain access to it, and you don't have to pay a penny.
I'll be using my membership to visit Northumbria University to take a look at the Huey P. Newton Papers and the Black Panther Party Papers that are held there, as part of my research for my BA dissertation.
