Planning for Thanksgiving

"Let's see..."

Emma chewed on her bottom lip as she stared at the tiny notepad in front of her, tapping her pen against her cheek.

"Turkey with stuffing... that's a given. Sweet potato casserole, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes, butternut squash, honey glazed carrots, biscuits... What am I forgetting?"

Emma stared and stared at the notepad as if the missing menu item would suddenly strike her in the head.

"OH! Cranberry sauce!"

She jotted down the item hurriedly in a messy scribble, pleased with what she had come up so far with her menu planning. Truly, it was ambitious for a beginner cook such as herself, but she was bound and determined to have a happy Thanksgiving this year.

"I wonder if Scottie is going to join us?" She pulled out her cell phone and dialed the familiar digits. Out of her two cousins, Scottie was the favorite, being closer to her in age, and having shared enough mishaps through the years. Though she still had yet to forgive for that head lamp incident during the camping trip of '97.

Soon enough the phone picked up.

"Is this being recorded?"

Emma groaned. "For the last time Scottie, I'm not going to record a conversation on my personal cell phone with a family member." He always answered her phone calls in the same manner.

"But who's to say one day you won't? Anyway, what's up Emskii?"

Rolling her eyes, Emma smiled into her phone. "Was wondering what you were doing for the holiday. Were you spending it with Uncle Stan or Danny?"

"Negatory. Dad's gone off to 'find himself,' and Danny is going off with Rita to Boston to visit her family this year."

"Well, if you want, you can join me and dad? I have some work friends coming too, but I think you'll get along with them well enough. Gammy's gonna be there too."

"Sure, I'll go. It beats eating Frito chips off of the floor."

"Gross. Anyway, got any requests for dessert?"

"I'm not gonna make blueberry scones, Scottie."

"Pumpkin pie it is."

"Why can't scones get any love? The pilgrims had scones, and I'll prove it just yet! There's this one website that showed a young Pilgrim woman with a scone, and she did this thing where..."

"Love ya Emskii!"

"Love you too, later Scottie."
