I am 60 yrs old, and when I moved to my current apt, I figured this would be the last place I'd live. It was inexpensive and centrally located. Well, a corporation out of New Jersey, Scotto Properties, has purchased our apt complex, and they are not doing renewals nor new leases. When our leases end, we have to move. Scotto has purchased about 5 apartment complexes in my city, and their M.O. is to buy old complexes, completely renovate them, and them charge full market value. What I now pay $700 for, will most likely be about $1200 when they're done with renovations.

I'm on Long Term Disability from a car accident I had in 1991, in upstate NY. I fell asleep at the wheel, and after hitting the guardrails, my car flipped end over end several times. On one of those flips, I was thrown out of the back window, and landed on my head in the highway. I spent 3 weeks in two different hospitals, and many months of rehab afterwards.

My current income is 60% of my 1990 salary, and that makes saving money impossible, so I find myself in this position as a victim of progress.

My lease ends in March (the end of it), but we've been told we can break our leases if we find something we can take advantage of, without penalty to us. I started looking in mid August because I knew this was going to happen. It's not looking like I'll be able to stay in Florida, or even in my county. Prices are astronomical anymore, everywhere, but here, because NASA, SpaceX, Blue Origin, and Boeing are all here, all doing well, and pulling in specialists with large incomes, who wouldn't flinch at $1700 a month for a 633 sq ft, 2 bedroom apt.
