ROUND-BACK ROCKS
Round-back rocks surround each cove
like Galapagos tortoises
ancient inner strength
holding untold stories.
These basalt-hard tales reach
farther than human memory
farther even than history.
Birthed in raging hot cauldron –
earth before earth.
Labored in magenta
and vermillion magma
seething fire gasping molten core
before centuries upon centuries
of cooling, always concealing
legends that follow old trails.
