You may have everyone else fooled with this goody two shoes act, but I remember what you said about Moe the MINUTE he wasn’t around to defend himself. He was kidnapped and TORTURED, you insensitive bastard. Have you and your little lackey no shame?
You’re lucky you haven’t found yourself in my dentist chair in recent months, that’s all I can say. (diy-dentist)
Oh, goddammit.
I'm not proud of what I said about him, okay? It was a long time ago, and I was an asshole. I've changed a lot since then. I went to therapy.
I'm trying to improve myself and this shit isn't helping.
I'm sorry. I know that doesn't fix things, but I'm sorry. I didn't know how bad things were then, and now that I do, I feel like a complete dickhead. I shouldn't have said that shit then and I sure as hell won't be repeating it now. Okay?
[All seemed peaceful, all seemed quiet save from the purr of a car engine as Russell pulled out of the driveway and the occasional sound from one of the neighbors outside.
It was quiet for the most part, Zeke had popped in a moment earlier to say he was stepping out to a Harbor Freight for a few items to finish off with last of the repairs.]
Er, uh Jo- do you mind watching her for a moment..?
[He’d asked, spotting the eldest girl of the great granddaughters as she came down from one of the upstairs rooms, pointing to Stephanie who got her hands on a box of tissues.]
I just, need to, check on…the others really quick. If one’s up they’re all sure to follow, I mean.
[His social skills weren’t too well in the beginning, tried too hard. What’s left clearly went down the drain during his time in hospice.]
….Sure, Moe, go ahead.
[Her eyes never really met with his as of lately, but she’d been trying her hardest (the talking both Graves sisters from their mother to show some sympathy regarding their Uncle was enough)
Moe wouldn’t blame her though, even he tried avoiding looking at himself for too long as well.
As he peeked into each room, every child he’d seen was still sound in their respective bed as they’d been laid down earlier. Eyes shut, curled into their pillows, with the only movements being the little rises to their chest as they breathed.
‘Good.’ Well, one less thing to worry about now.
….Scratch that, the sound of tiny footsteps padding across the carpet filled his ears. It wasn’t long before something bumped into the back of his leg.]
Oh, hi, I didn’t think you were up.
[There was Jillian, exiting from a room he’d just previously checked, one palming rubbing at her eye while the other gripped onto his pant leg for stability.]
Did you just wake up or you couldn’t sleep?
[She merely nodded, still too fatigued for her mind to form sentences and lips pursed together from lack of moisture.
‘Well, no used getting her back to sleep if she’s already up now.’
‘I know someone who’s winner for Uncle of the Year—’
This was beginning to be just plain irritating than annoying now.
‘Do you ever stay quiet?!’
Well, all were nestled quietly in each room with the exception one. Wouldn’t be fair to dawdle in the hallway and leave the other to babysitting by herself.
He felt a pang of guilt having to deny the usual piggyback ride to the kitchen but if Moe could barely lift Stephanie, it’d be near impossible to balance Jillian, even with her small size.
The 7-year didn’t fully begin to awaken until the sound of sticky plastic and hum of the refrigerator motor mechanism filled her ears.
Out came the large box set onto the counter, popping open the little slit and retrieving 4 of the frozen treats from the inside.]
Just remember what the rules are-
[He said, bending down to her level height, two popsicles in a hand that were attached to one another by the tops & bottoms of the wrapper.]
Make sure to hide all evidence.
Good- and the second, if it’s found by one of the others?
You weren’t here.
[Snapping off one, he placed the wrapped treat into her hand, a pat to her golden curls.]
Atta girl.
[He said, allowing Jillian to unwrap and bite into the frozen grape treat that would cool her from the Ohio heat.
Not that he could feel it, his body had difficulty regulating heat lately that left him absolutely chilled to the bone at most times.
And sure, he would probably get some stares at wearing a cardigan in 100 degree weather, but to him it felt barely above 40.]
[It seemed like perfect summer weather as the two got outside, just a smidge more than what some would prefer.
But it was Ohio, not much of a clear explanation there though nothing much to say.
There was Jo, taking place where the sun hit most in the comfort of a lawn chair and swim cover discarded onto the grass.
The two youngest members took a spot on each side of him, Stephanie already halfway finished as evidenced by the stains purple darkening the front of her onesie. While Jillian merely crunched on hers, blonde curls already frizzing from the humidity.]
[From bad to worse, this seemed to describe how Moe’s life had been going since his own personal show down with the demon Asmodeus.
It a truly frightening experience, almost as bad as underground. Moe could still remember the face of the serpent, blood red eyes with a look of fury and long fangs attempting to bite at paper thin flesh.
If it hadn’t been for the string and voice. He wouldn’t be sure if he would still be alive right now.
Waking up was the worst part.
That awful pain running through his body, blood leaked from every pore and the most horrifying screaming emitted from his mouth like a wounded animal.
His body felt as though it were engulfed in flames. Blunt nails clawing into his right side but no wound was there.]
Something had bit him, he knew something had but he couldn’t prove it
Moe felt several arms hold his flailing body down, then a pinch and that’s the last thing he remembered before waking up.
[It seemed like months had passed since then, he barely recalled any time seeming different as he laid strapped to his hospital bed for an agonizing 3 days in the beginning.
A ‘precaution’ they called it: as Moe could not stay still, grabbing at his side until it left a bruise and roughly scratched through his gown long enough for the material to rip as he marred pale skin raw with bloody red lines.]
(Liars, all of them. They think your mad, just want to hear you screech and driven insane until they see fit to send you to the loony bin.)
[Hooked up to wires, monitors, a cocktail of endless pills 3 times a day that tasted vile. Most vomited within 30 minutes in a gelatinous puddle.
His stomach empty, for he could barely stomach a thing without intense nausea hitting him a minute later and relied on the feeding tube once more.
Life felt like Hell.
He hated it.
He couldn’t remember crying, but his face felt constantly wet near the center and eyes burned as though fresh lemons were squeezed into them.]
[Moe thought someone visited, took him from this place and put him into a pool of water that made him feel at peace.]
He liked that.
And then he woke up in bed.
[He was finally free of those restraints at his torso, ankles, and wrists. Moe could remember stretching out as far as his limbs would reach, taking in a breath he had been holding forever.
His body. HIS. And HIS ALONE.
He remembered at one point of even crawling onto the floor and just laying there, limbs stretched out on the cold linoleum until caught and was ordered back into bed.
Moe wanted so badly to leave this place, he didn’t like hospitals as much as the next person. But after this whole near death experience, Moe really hated them. The scents of the room were too strong of the antiseptics used, bed too firm and unfamiliar.
No matter how many times he took a shower, even on the hottest of temperatures, Moe could not feel clean.
His skin no longer broke into a sweat during this time, but the feeling of grime and unconscious touching still clung to his skin despite nothing physically there.
Moe was by no means an outdoorsman, the closest he’d even get to outside is on the patio deck of his adoptive grandparents’ house.
But more than anything did he want to be outside. He hadn’t been able to talk to anyone, his voice rough and barely above a whisper from lack of use.
It took some convincing, but he was cleared just long enough for the upcoming Nine Days of Av.
Which is where present day, Moe had a problem: No alone travel.
He was far too weak still to travel by himself, he’d need to be with someone to keep an eye on him in case his health rebounded.
Moe didn’t want to bother anyone at the moment, they’d done more than enough for him and last thing he wanted to be was a nuisance again.
He didn’t want Adam to come all this way back to pick him up, Bubbe needed him more right now with the preparations.
Uncle Harris was located all the way in Los Angeles and beside, he had his own wife & child to look after.
Curtis was currently in Toronto on business but even then, his car was too small and Tallulah’s carrier took up most space on the ride.
Zeke’s driving skills were left to be unsaid so that was out of the question.
That left only one person.
‘Just do it, Maurice. All you need to do is type one sentence, you’ve done it before. Stop acting so stubborn!’
He’d been at his portable for over an hour scolding himself, hunched over and fingers hovering over the computer keys.
‘He’s too busy, it’d be terrible to make him come all this way out again.’ He thought to himself, the burning urge to grab at his side again.]
No…no, no.
[He said to himself, pulling his hand back to his lap. Last thing he needed were his hands to be gloved again and under surveillance for another week.
His stomach was in knots and head pounding, it would only take a minute to send him an email through his AOL.
If he’d only. Stop. STALLING.
Moe couldn’t waste anymore time if he wanted to make it there early.
‘I hope I don’t regret this,’ he thought to himself, typing out a short sentence, a small ping emitting as he clicked ‘SEND.’]
‘ @diy-dentist hi, it’s Maurice. I’m really sorry to bother you right now, but I need to ask for a favor.’
Every prod with a needle, a-a cup sample of something!
Stared and pondered at like some sort of zoo attraction- getting asked the same question over and over of how I’m feeling o-or my pain levels for the moment despite getting the same friggin’ answer got damned time!
Even that stupid sleep study that had me so worked up for nearly 2 DAYS!
All of it. NEGATIVE
(What was it for then? What was all that for if nothing was found, nothing abnormal or even the slightest bit elevated?!)
WHAT WAS IT ALL FOR!?
I must look like some sort of basket-case, probably lock me up in the psych ward cause I’m driving myself up the wall trying to make sense of what the hell was going on in the last week.
The sleep study was the worst of it all- I had no control over my own body. That same figure got into my dream cycle, just pinning me down to the bed and pushing down on my throat. I couldn’t breathe.
And it was so terrifying cause I could see my body trying to, but nothing I tried would work.
It took nearly 3 doctors to finally wake me out of that state, only just to get pinned to the bed for a morphine shot.
I-I’m at my wits end.
God, I looked in the mirror for the first time in several days. Like, got a REALLY good look.
I barely recognized myself. I-I don’t know how it got so bad, b-but I don’t remember there being gray in my hair.
A large, chunk of silver hair that wasn’t there until today. And now it’s just suddenly there, plain as day and blended into my hair color.
(I know something is going on, but even if I tried bringing it up, I just know they wouldn’t waste any time labeling me psychotic and tossing me in to the nearest mental ward.
I can’t go through captivity again, I just can’t do it anymore. I don’t want what’s in my head anymore- I JUST WANT THIS THING THAT’S BEEN ATTACKING MY HEAD TO JUST LEAVE!)
I’m so tired, tired of everything.
Being stuck in this room, not being able to get around without being watched it feels no different than that time underground.
That wasn’t even the half of it. Despite barely remembering anything last week, I got visited by one of the authorities today.
They found my car.
Crashed into a tree, it wasn’t until today they found it because the snow banks from the blizzard had covered it.
(I-Is that what happened? Is that why I got so banged up and can’t remember anything?
I just want some answers because I’m so tired of trying to remember, to make sense and tired of crying over everything in my sleep because I can’t think clearly anymore!)
You doing alright Moe? Not to push or anything but I’ve noticed some interesting things on your page and I wanted to check in to make sure you’re doing ok.
