Finished paying off my Scaletrains SD38-2 layaway. For all the shit I give Scaletrains about paint colors, these are pretty spot on.
The pulling power and light functions are fantastic. I had way too much fun breaking these in.

A Day in Michigan City (1 of 7)
A Series of posts focusing on the Chicago, South Shore, and South Bend Railroad, now more commonly referred to simply as the South Shore. The passenger product has been taken over by the Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District.
While waiting for an eastbound passenger train, I was surprised by this westbound set of engines running light in the other direction. This pair of SD38-2s were once owned by Reserve Mining. We’re on the west side of town, the first three images taken along Eleventh Street, while the last is on Tenth Street.

Chicago & Illinois Midland
I believe I was in Springfield, Illinois, for this shot. We see some of the interesting power of this intriguing regional road, all from EMD.
Number 60 is an SD18 built in 1961. I think this is about when EMD put out their first factory-built low-noses; note the sloped short hood and one-piece windshield. Number 74 is a somewhat rare SD38-2 (90 were produced), built in 1974. And, barely visible, number 51 is an SD9 built in 1955.

Chicago & Illinois Midland
Here are some locomotives of the Chicago & Illinois Midland Railroad. This small road ran between Taylorville and Peoria, Illinois, though it was centered in Springfield, where this image was made. The power one sees here are SD18s on the left, and SD38-2s on the right.

Chicago & Illinois Midland
This is a C&IM train at an unknown location in central Illinois. Number 72 is an EMD SD38-2 and number 30 is the rare EMD RS1325—only two built, in 1960. (Heck, only 83 of the SDs were built.)
