Character Introduction: Líf Erling
Pronouns: Any
Age: ???? (Time travel complicates the matter)
Power: Temporal manipulation
So, Who Is This Guy?
Líf’s backstory is currently secret lore, but his whole deal as an adult pre-canon (well, pre-canon from his timeline) is that he’s a bit of an absentminded academic who is more interested in things like ancient coins and longbows than adventure and intrigue. Nonetheless, adventure usually finds him—there are a surprising number of life threatening incidents that take place around important historical artifacts.
Powers:
Líf’s powers are specifically temporal manipulation rather than time travel because he’s kind of OP. He can travel in time, but he can also stop and start time. Also he can see parallel universes/alternate timelines. Yeah.
Interaction With Canon:
Buckle up—this is where it gets complicated. In her (time) travels, Líf meets the mysterious and powerful Narrator while trying to get some ancient coins. Narrator already knows her, which isn’t too surprising seeing as she’s a time traveler—meeting in the wrong order is to be expected. After this first meeting, she starts running into Narrator here and there and the two become casual friends.
Then, one day, Líf travels far into the future, farther than they’ve gone before, and sees Narrator die. Shaken, they go all the way back in time and end up meeting and introducing themself to Narrator (for the first time from her perspective). They also make the decision to never travel past the day of Narrators death. Ever. Which essentially means that in the linear timeline they just disappear after canon.
Narrator and Líf run into each other throughout time and space, and from Narrator’s perspectives Líf is just—different—sometimes. She doesn’t know what the difference is each time she sees Líf, but it’s actually that in some meetings she’s interacting with a Líf who’s seen her die and in others she’s interacting with a Líf who hasn’t.
Eventually—and this is kind of complicated so I’ll keep it short—Narrator accidentally gains an omniscient being in her head called Underscore, and it makes her omniscient by proxy. She sees her death in Líf’s head, and everything changes. (Quick note--the tag for Narrator and Líf is #ragnarok!)
