hey, hi, hey. hope you’ve settled in well at your new place. you’re probably busy partying it up with your new john hopkins buddies so i’ll keep this short. or, you know, short by nolan standards. i know we haven’t been too close the last couple of years and that it’s because we’ve been caught up with different things but i already really miss you, bud. i know you’ll do great out there. you’ll become this amazing doctor that’s got her life together and won’t let anyone belittle her. mom and dad keep telling me how proud they are of you but they probably say that to you too, so i don’t know why i would even mention it. you’re the good one, you know? the success kid. [sighs] they’re starting to ask me about school more and they actually eat dinner at home a couple of times a week, too. it’s so fucking weird. like, all i do now is listen to them discuss complicated lawyer stuff that i don’t even understand. i think i liked it better with you here and they pretended like i didn’t exist. how fucked up is that? i don’t know why, i just feel like they feel forced to take an interest in me and that’s the worst feeling, honestly. so, yeah. anyway. remember when we actually used the tree house out back? i think those were the years where i was closest to being genuinely happy. i go up there to escape them now. wow, listen to me whine about my parents taking more of an interest in me. haha. you know what it is, though, it’s just a little too late. [sings half of the jojo song and forgets what he was saying before that] okay, well, don’t mistake any of this for me being sad or blaming you for anything. i’m so fucking proud of you, you don’t even know. honestly the minute you settle down and get a house, i’m getting someone to build you a tree house so i can move into your backyard. i want us to be as close as back then, so i’m gonna try to reach out more. it’s one of the many things i completely suck at but i’ll try. so hard. anyway, holla at me when you get this. i’ll come get froyo in maryland sometime, maybe hit you up. maybe.
