maybe today’s just an off day. she doesn’t know. but when she came out of the water, she couldn’t feel anything but the burn of air hitting her skin. it wasn’t pleasant. everything burned; her bones rattled, but she moved through that because she was stronger than it. but as the day progressed, it got worse. her body yearned. and she found herself remembering why she stayed so long in the water in the first place.

she fell against him before she even realized what she had done, because she felt so unstable that she couldn’t even keep her feet on the ground. fucking disgusting.

he’d been watching long enough to know that something was different about her. he didn’t tend to spend time staring at people but it just so happened that he had glanced up to look at her, and he saw that. it was small, but a much as he’d been looking to life all this time, when he saw it happen. he couldn’t help but look away.
