A friend has two sons. One calls me "Sunflake." The other calls me by my complete name every time he sees me, "Sunny James." I rather like both iterations. "Sunflake" implies soft durable and resilient. Last night I dreamt that my grandmother was cooking for me. She was a southern woman who loved her cornbread baked or on the stovetop. But always from scratch. Nope, these are not pancakes.
