‘Help...’
A whispered scream. Unheard, by any other. ‘Help!’ You hear it again, the voice is familiar. Who is it? Who needs help? You’re crying. You don’t get it. ‘Help!’ Whispered, yes, but desperate. The most desperate sound you’ve ever heard. The voice is familiar to you. No one else hears it. You tap someone’s shoulder. “Do you know where that’s coming from? Can you help me find them? They’re hurting...” The man looks at you as if you were his losing lottery number. You continue, looking around for the voice. ‘Help!’ it hurts, it hurts. Your heart’s shattering in two. The sound clawing at your mind. How can no one else hear it? It’s so loud, so pained, so...familiar...
...Oh.
...It’s your voice. ‘H e l p m e.’
