“We made a deal, remember? All four of us live to see graduation. We. Made. A. Deal.”
In other words, one of them is going to die after graduation. Great. Just what I want to be thinking about going into Onyx Storm.

((sorry about the other first-years i'm sure i'll like you eventually too. you just had no screentime))
As a countdown to Onyx Storm’s release date, I’ve decided to post my favorite quotes, one per day, in no particular order.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll still be saying it on my deathbed. I’d give a small body part to have a group like Second Squad, Flame Section, Fourth Wing in my corner. The (well earned) unflinching loyalty to Violet is so heartwarming even in a situation as dire as this one.

“Is anyone going to tell us why we just walked out of Battle Brief?” Cat asks, a few steps behind me. “Violet has a look in her eyes,” Rhiannon explains, keeping up at my side. “The same one she had before the Squad Battle last year,” Sawyer says. “She’s onto something, and from our experience, you just roll with it,” Rhiannon finishes.

“What do we do if we come across a dragon?” she asks. “First we choose a sacrifice,” Ridoc says. “And then we offer it and run.” Her eyes flare wide. “Don’t be an asshole.” I elbow him in the arm. “Depends on the color, but a good rule of thumb is to lower your eyes and back away,” I tell the infantry cadet. “But we can usually hear them coming.” “Then prepare to be digested,” Cohen adds. “Oh gods,” the brunette whispers. “You are now my favorite year-mate.” Ridoc throws an arm over his shoulder.
So I’ve been listening to the Empyrean books again, and:
Fourth Wing, Chapter 38 (Violet gets stabbed with a poisoned blade):
Iron Flame, Chapter 14 (first land navigation exercise):
In the magical universe there are no coincidences and there are no accidents. nothing happens unless someone wills it to happen.

Anyone else have a minor panic attack at this? Just me?
