Lu crossed her arms behind her back, keeping a calm demeanor. Even if the woman seemed uneasy, it was her goal to seem calm and cool, and to make the pianist comfortable. "The Devil, Satan, Beelzebub, whatever you'd like to call him, dearie." She explained. "It's my job to make you dreams come true. People seem to think that my goal is to spread chaos and evil, but I'm just trying to help you, lovely."
Annaliese couldn’t help raise an eyebrow once the woman began decribing her occupation. She instinctively brought her music books closer to her chest at the mention of this “King of Hell”. Just the way this woman said his name had such a strange, loyal quality to it.
“I appreciate that you are trying to help me, miss. But I’ve already experienced what needs to be done to reach a higher position in the industry.” she sadly said, bringing her trench coat nearer to her, as if to hide something which was concealed underneath.
Lu noted the fading of the woman's voice. A weakness. That was the perfect place for Lu to work herself in. "Have you ever thought of what it would be like to make it to the top? The very top, with no possibility of someone stopping you? Because you know, darling, I can make that happen for you." She said as a small smirk began to crawl onto her face.
At the mention of popularity, Annaliese’s face became neutral. Now was the time to observe this seemingly kind woman. What were her intentions for all of this now?
“Hasn’t every person dreamed of “making it big”?” she laughed innocently, trying to divert the mood that the conversation had quickly taken.
“I am satisfied with my current status as a musician.” she stated, her words firm and believable.
Lu nodded in agreement, keeping the false, interested smile on her face. "Oh, darling, that sort of music always appeals to me. Couldn't say why." She remarked. "But your talent is absolutely astounding. You should be touring the world, performing for the Queen, at the top of the ladder."
Annaliese nodded approvingly when the woman mentioned her preference in music.
Annaliese waved a hand at the woman, saying “Oh, please don’t say that! There are millions of pianists in the world that don’t even get the honor of performing in a beautiful place like this!” She turned and gestured towards the beautiful, historic arts center behind the two.
“It’s all just a matter of management and sponsors and connections with the “right” people, afterall.” she mentioned, the enthusiasm in her voice fading.
“You have to push some people off the ladder to get the top.” she chuckled lightly. “And that’s not the way I go about my business… nowadays…” she added reluctantly.
"Darling! Lovely show. Lovely, lovely show."
Annaliese smiled warmly as the other woman spoke to her outside the ancient concert hall.
“I’m thrilled that you enjoyed it.” she responded, genuinely pleased by the compliment.
“I don’t usually get much praise after playing the works of Stravinsky. Mostly because his music doesn’t suit the general public all that much. With the dissonance and the sad, angered, brutal melodies. It takes real concentration to recognize its beauty.” she said, looking hopefully at the admirer, wondering if she may add more to the discussion on the Russian composer.
