It's moving day! The little menace, I mean precious kitty cat, Spot, is in her carrier and ready, and all that's left to do is move boxes. The furniture is staying at my mom's, as her guest room. With Grillby, of course.
Sansy and Sweets offered you their truck to help with moving. The brothers and Grillby and you spent most of the morning getting all your boxes into the truck.
"We'll meet ya at Grillbz's," Sansy said with a grin.
"Take Care Of The Little Kitty," Sweets added. He knew better than to try to pet Spot goodbye. Your cat had been making her displeasure known for the whole ten minutes she'd been in her carrier.
You smiled at both skeletons and spoke over your yowling feline. "Thanks so much, guys," you said. "We owe you."
Beside you, Grillby nodded. "Dinner is on us," he said.
Sansy snickered. "Thanks," he said. Turning to his brother, he added, "Told you he'd feed us."
Spot screamed louder, cutting off whatever Sweets was going to say.
"We'd better get her home," you said hastily, over the feline shrieking. "Meet you there, guys."
The brothers hurried to their truck and you and Grillby got into your car. Grillby wasn't terribly comfortable driving, so he sat in the passenger seat with Spot on his lap. Normally she liked his lap. He was one of her favorite spots. But apparently today, his warmth was not good enough for her. She continued to let both of you know just how unhappy she was as you drove away from your mom's house into Littleton.
"I feel like we should apologize to her," Grillby said. "I didn't realize she hated the carrier so much."
"She'll be fine once we get inside and let her out," you assured him. "I might not be able to help with unpacking, though. She's gonna need snuggles."
"You can both supervise," he said. He reached out one hand and gently touched your knee. "I am so happy you are coming to live with me."
"Me too," you said. You glanced down for a moment at the ring on your left hand and smiled. He'd proposed a few months ago, and the memory still made you tear up a bit. Or maybe it was the sheer joy at the thought that one day soon, you'd be married to him.
You blinked a bit and turned into the little parking lot behind the bar. The truck was already there and half-empty. Sweets moved fast at any time, and Sansy moved fast with the promise of hamburgers.
"Almost home," you sing-songed to the still-yowling cat. Grillby handed you the carrier.
"See you in a moment," he said, his hands brushing over yours for a moment.
"Love you," you said and kissed his cheek. Then you headed inside and up the back stairs. Spot was still declaring her woes to the world as you went.
You heard a muffled, "Here they come!" and the door to Grillby's apartment--your apartment--swung open. Sansy moved aside for you with his usual grin. "Kitty girl gonna be okay if we keep this open to get stuff in?" he asked.
"She'll be fine," you assured him. "She's going to stick to me like velcro for the next hour at least."
Sansy snickered and headed back down the stairs. You walked into the apartment, taking in the familiar warmth and scent of it. Moving in here was kind of inevitable, after all the time you'd spent here with your love. It felt like home already. You sighed happily and carried the cat to the couch.
"Are you ready to calm down now, crabby cat?" you crooned to her. "We're home now. You don't have to leave again." Lies, of course, because she would have to go to the vet at some point, but she didn't know that.
You opened the door of the carrier. Your sweet black and white girl looked at you with big, big eyes and meowed pitifully. "Oh, baby...Come here. Come on out. Come to Mama." You reached in and she let you pull her out. The moment she was in your arms, she latched onto you and began purring loudly. You leaned back against the couch and cuddled her on your chest, murmuring cat mom nonsense. "Yeah, poor baby. Had to ride in the car for soooo long, huh? Poor poor baby. We're all home now. You and me and Grillby. All home now..."
You heard feet on the steps and soon the skeleton brothers and Grillby appeared, all laden with boxes. Grillby set his down on the coffee table and leaned down to kiss you lightly. "Welcome home, Jessa," he said. He stroked the cat. "Welcome home, Spot."
