In honor of National Coming Out Day, I would like to say thank you to the people on this website who have educated me so much on the many sexualities that exist. Less than a year ago I would have thought there was only hetero and homosexuality, and that bisexuality wasn’t even real.

I really have learned a lot about others and myself and I admire every single one of you who has endured the difficulty of being queer (whether you’re “out” or not quite yet). Right now, I identify as ‘bicurious’. If it turns out I’m only attracted to the opposite sex, that’s fine, but I am still and always will be an Ally.

While we as a society and culture are definitely growing more accepting of queer folk, there is a long way to go for equal rights and treatment. I truly hope that one day sexuality is not viewed as defining characteristic or a flaw in who you are, and instead as something that is to be shared and treated respectfully.

You are never your sexuality, but you should be able to be open about it. Not everyone can come out right now, and the most important thing to remember that it is your choice whether or not you would like to tell others about your sexuality. Only do it if you’re comfortable and please make sure you won’t be put in harm’s way for coming out.

I love you all so much and I want to do all that is within my power to help the movement for equal rights and treatment of those identifying as queer. Happy National Coming Out Day. You’re beautiful.
