I'll Place the Moon Within Your Heart

Hi darlin, just popping in to say hi! I hope you're doing okay <3
Thanks, I appreciate it ;w;
It’s not been the best month; its been hard to stay focused and my creative energy has been elusive, conflict living with my family at the moment, I have to wait a month for my next counseling session, and two of my cats need expensive dental work and a biopsy. Just a lot of things going on x_x
I had @sekhmet-heart as my giftee for Santa Age and she requested a fic of her Inquisitor Asharis and Cullen. I’m a little rusty but I hope you like it! Happy Holidays!
Sunlight is just beginning to stream into the room when Asharis wakes, nestled in the warmth of Cullen’s arms. Nights are always the hardest but the peace of the morning more than makes up for it. She loves listening to the calm, steady cadence of Cullen’s breathing, waiting for him to wake.
Asharis shifts in his arms, turning to face him. He looks at ease, the soft light of dawn playing over his features. She can’t help but smile, reaching up to brush an errant golden curl from his forehead. Cullen stirs at her touch, giving her a lazy smile as he blinks away the vestiges of sleep.
“Good morning Ash,” he whispers, capturing her hand in his own. It’s a familiar gesture, the feeling of his fingers linked with hers one that she’s well acquainted with. It’s the simple things that make her fall in love with him all over again, a kiss on the cheek or the reassuring press of his hand on the small of her back. When she’d been thrust into the middle of a war the last thing she’d expected to find was love but the ex-Templar had found a way into her heart.
“Good morning,” she says with a smile, capturing his lips in a sweet kiss. “I didn’t mean to wake you.”
He chuckles softly, running his fingers through the soft waves of her hair.
“I would have been up soon enough, old habits die hard,” He reassures her, tracing the line of her jaw with a calloused thumb. “Lots of early mornings as the commander of the Inquisition’s forces…”
Asharis smiles, leaning into his touch. She’ll never grow tired of this. The early morning calm, the whispered words, the feeling of his arms around her.
“Do you miss it?” She asks, running her fingers absently through his hair.
“Not at all. There’s nowhere I’d rather be than here with you,” Cullen says, capturing her lips in a long, lingering kiss. “Do you ever regret ending it all?”
“Never,” she whispers, pulling him back for another kiss. It’s perfect and sweet and she’s struck by how right everything feels.
Moments like this were harder to come by during their time with the Inquisition, the burdens of command leaving them with only the chance for stolen moments in time. It’s still strange, not having to worry about alliances or treaties, no early morning meetings or late night war table sessions. All they have is time. She can’t imagine going back to those days–decisions that could change the world all resting upon her shoulders. They don’t need the Inquisition, that story is said and done.
“Do you think we made a difference?” Cullen asks, fingers trailing down her arm.
Asharis looks at him in surprise, thrown off by the question. In truth she hasn’t given much thought to that.
“I think we did,” She finally says. “It wasn’t easy but we stood up for what was right.”
Cullen gives her a soft smile, tracing the line of her jaw with his thumb.
“I love you, Ash,” He says, capturing her lips in a languid kiss. She can’t help but smile as he comes back for another kiss and then yet another, each more needy than the last.
“I love you too,” She whispers, knowing that she’s made the right decision. They’ll have many more moments like this and she can hardly wait to see what lies ahead for them.
How do you deal with old art that got popular- like the kind of art you look back on and cringe so hard you almost implode? I mean, maybe it's just me, but when I see old, crappy, problematic crap of mine STILL getting shared around, I almost have to lay down and take some deep breaths. I don't feel like this all the time, but when I do... ugh.
It makes me tense sometimes.
But most of the time I just mentally detach myself from the person I was when I drew it, especially the shitty problematic stuff. Like I acknowledge I did it, I did the fucked up thing, and you can’t just easily hide your past shitty self from the internet... but I was a young fucking ridiculous kid who fucked up. The Shinga that did that art isn’t the current Shinga. I feel so different from that kid. So that helps, along with acknowledging how hard current Shinga is working to become a better person and a better artist.
So in a way, it’s still stressful and I want to crawl and hide in a hole while the feeling passes (ESPECIALLY on high anxiety days)... it’s also inspiring in a way, though! To see how far you’ve come as a person and an artist with that reminder out there.
And humbling, to know that there’s probably stuff I’m doing NOW that I’ll look back on in 10 years and cringe at... and so long as I’m still trying every day to be better in those 10 years? The idea, now, of how much I’ll have grown in 10 years? It’s inspiring, in a way.
It’s a complicated mess of feelings to have your old work, your old words and art, still floating around being problematic and shitty on the internet. I can’t undo a lot of what I did. I just have to keep moving forward.
Once you get this you have to say five things you like about yourself, publicly. Then, you have to send this to ten of your favorite followers.
1. I like my taste in style, maybe not on myself all the time, but I still like it. =)
2. I like how much I like animals? I mean does that count? I’d be miserable with myself if I didn’t like animals.
3. I like that I can cook good food. People say it’s good, and I like it, so yeah. I like that I can cook.
4. tbc
5. tbc
I’ll add in the rest later because I’m having trouble thinking of the last two.
would you sleep with: Oghren, Iron Bull, Cullen, Sera?
Oghren: Nope
Iron Bull: Maybe if I were wasted (not really into qunari)
Cullen: Eh.. Sure
Sera: TAKE YOUR CLOTHES OFF NOW
DESTINY you are one of my art idols and I know that a single compliment won't change what you think, but I LOVE your art, and I have definitely seen a ton of improvement. Still, even if you think you didn't improve, every drawing is practice, and practice is GOD
no, it means a lot to me ;_; I know i’m overly critical of my own stuff, and I should be because it’s how I encourage myself to keep trying new things to get better. It’s just frustrating to see the stuff from earlier this year and enjoy it far more than the stuff I’ve done in the last couple months.
And I’m just being overly dramatic, I know it’s not that I got worse but instead let bad habits and laziness creep in. But you are right! (ง'̀-'́)ง We can do this and get gud for 2018
sekhmet-heart replied to your photo: I think my kitten has missed me while I’ve been...
how old is little Shy now?
She'll be 8 months next week :)
