Sorry I am answering this so late!
Well for Fauna she thought she was a normal person until she discovered she was a mutant she like transformed at a party her rich family were hosting.
So she basically got ostracised and ran away from home only to get stuck in animal form for a while and began hiding in small places until she was found by the X-Men.
That is literally all I got absksbjs
