Sempervivum tectorum, Crassulaceae

Sempervivum species share a very powerful name, which sounds quite similar in Italian, Semprevivo, and means ”always-living”, while in English they are known as common houseleek or hen and chicks. They are some of the plants I’ve become very familiar with from a young age and could often observe in their natural habitat during walks on the Alps and Apennines. I’ve even seen it growing on roofs, as the tectorum part of the name suggests! They are also extremely widely grown, as a cultivar or another, wherever I have lived so far and in many more places around the world as housplants, because they are so visually appealing and flower beautifully! 

I currently grow a couple of varieties myself for fun, but I photographed this one at Glasgow Botanic Gardens.
