This Tuesday I’m going to give some tidbits on Senebty:
Senebty takes place after Atem walks through the door after the ceremonial duel. Instead of going to the afterlife, Osiris takes him to an alternate life/dimension where everything is wrong. Seto is pharaoh instead of him, the items are given to the wrong people and don’t work quite right, and his friends from his time with Yuugi are there as well. The biggest/strangest/backwards thing; he’s already there. He tries to get his alternate self to correct the differences, but the longer he’s there, the more he sees this life his alternate self has is better than the one he had.
I based this story off of some of the Ancient Egyptian research I did. Thutmose III was such a bad ass king. Sure, he’s got some controversy about his predecessor, but snap. This guy. He did shit his damn self and that’s pretty BA if you ask me. I could really see Kaiba doing a lot of the things he did. Although I fluffed and modified it, the campaign that Seto brings Atem along on is based on a real campaign that Thutmose III did. He lead his army personally, was a brilliant military strategist and I made sure to highlight some of the glorious moments of the real life campaign in this fic.
I had an obscene amount of fun putting Atem in awkward situations with his alternate self. Obscene amount of fun. He leaves the ceremonial duel with ‘everyone’s friends’ and goes into a world where ‘more than friends’ things are going on right in front of him, sometimes involving him, and he can’t even wrap his head around it. My personal favorite: Atem told his alternate self he should talk to Yuugi (because they were maybe acquaintances), but when his alternate self comes back from the campaign with Yuugi as way more than friends he has a legit existential crisis.
When I started writing this fic, I had a hard time with the names because everyone’s there. Everyone from Atem’s past and everyone from his time with Yuugi all coexisting in this dimension/lifetime. Although we, as a fandom, have names for Yuugi (Heba) and Joey (Jono) some of the others do not. I didn't want to go in and change everyone's name, making it impossible to know who was who, so I just went with the Japanese names for everyone. It would’ve been super cool to give them all Ancient Egyptian names, but I felt it would’ve taken away from the story trying to figure out who the hell they were.
