I've fallen in love with this game again
So I finally got around to fighting grigori and my beloved was Julien (no suprise) but I CANNOT believe this man was cowering over fucking normal ass goblins. Like this is the night's champion, the pride of voloda who literally started a revolt over the duke and would've kicked mercedes ass (no hate to the girlboss ofc) if he wasn't stopped. I've literally seen this hunk of a man fuck up SNOW HARPIES, who are at least 10x more stronger than normal goblins. And ur gonna tell me that he wouldn't at least attempt to throw a punch at the goblins swinging at him?
I AM NOT emotionally able to marry anyone else than this asshole in Dragon's Dogma 💔✨

Dragons Dogma spoilers
So...yeah, I usually dodge the npc's in this segment but I decided to attack and...killing my beloved Julien like that.
"So that's your answer then" as if..."so this is the end between us. You'd rather become a god than remain with me," is what it evokes for me.
Goddammit.
ok so I have thoughts on the anime, obviously there’s going to be spoilers.
I’m not really sure where to even begin, so I’ll go over what I liked.
Loved the nods to the original games. The bow and arrow is the same as in game, obviously there’s Cassardis (If bigger) the Vestad Hills, the iconic fort where Gregori lives etc. I loved the monster battles (I’v seen better, but they weren’t awful)
Loved Hannah, she was by far the best thing we got out of this show. Loved her so much. And her ending where she’s wearing Ethan and Olivia’s bracelets was really sweet in my opinion and I thought that was an alright way to end.
I thought the monsters looked rough but the human characters were really good looking and they did not bother me at all.
Loved that Ethan turns into a dragon....
Now, the things that irk me.
SO, ARE WE GOING TO IGNORE THE DUDE WHO IS BASICALLY JULIEN, BUT NOT JULIEN BUT LOOKS EXACTLY LIKE JULIEN EXCEPT FOR THE EYES AND ALSO HAS A SUSPICIOUSLY SIMILAR WORLD VIEW AND ORIGIN LIKE JULIEN BUT IS STILL NOT JULIEN AND IS NAMED AFTER A DWARVEN RUIN FROM SKYRIM?
Yeah, I had to remind myself “That’s not Julien, stop getting attached to this guy because he’s not Julien” Balthazar was a babe, and I was pretty miffed that they killed him off so...suddenly? So stupidly too? The same with Simon, like it was shocking and I had to cover my mouth...but it felt pointless? Although I may just be mad because I got attached to a discount Julien and he was killed off pointlessly.
which is a problem with this show, a lot of the stuff feels very pointless. Like, I know they’re showing the best and worst of humanity but it was mediocre and everything was really rushed and hardly thought provoking? There were some plot twists which I thought were ok like when Theo killed Elizabeth, but everything was so rushed that it never stuck and it didn’t feel impactful? Which is dumb because how am I supposed to feel like Ethan is impacted when I’m not even phased myself?
Another thing that irked me was...the sexualisation. So, I love boobs. I love ladies, and sex in anime does not bother me. But this anime went overboard with it? I never get bothered by nudity but for some reason this anime rubbed me the wrong way? I was hoping they would not strip Hannah and I was glad they didn’t but the huge boobs I saw put me off because it was very tasteless and...it felt like the show was going HERE WATCH OUR SHOW WE HAVE BOOBS. Because there’s nothing else to the narrative so they need boobs to get the audience to watch. Idk, maybe it was just me but the nudity felt very forced and made me uncomfortable. And that sexual assault scene was really...ugh.
Then again, Ethan is a very bland, very basic protagonist with a waifu pawn so...I guess I shouldn’t be surprised since the anime is clearly targetting a certain demographic...
So...when the ending came about I was stoked that the Arisen was going to become a dragon because WE DON’T SEE THAT in the game and so seeing it in the anime was genuinely cool and I thought that was a decent twist the story. AND I REALLY JUMPED OUT OF MY SEAT WHEN I THOUGHT, OMG ETHAN IS GRIGORI, THAT IS WHY THEY GOT THE ORIGINAL VOICE ACTOR FROM THE VIDEO GAME BUT EDITED HIS VOICE, BECAUSE WHEN ETHAN CHANGES WE’RE GOING TO HEAR GRIGORI’S VOICE.
Nope. None of that. I was really out here thinking we were seeing Grigori’s origin story but I’m pretty sure that isn’t it. So, I’m super mad about that becase I was sure this anime was going to be kind of worth it because IT’S GRIGORI’S STORY. But nah, there’s no confirmation and I was angry.
So, since I’m sure Ethan isn’t Grigori, that makes the whole dragon thing kind of lame and also makes the lack of post-game content really annoying. And I’m pretty sure they whipped out Godsbane BUT THERE’S NO GOD, WHERE’S GOD NETFLIX!!?? The lack of the everfall and fight with the seneschal was really dissapointing because the post-game is one of the best parts of Dragons Dogma...
all in all, some of it was ok. But given how much I love this game? The anime is lacklustre, slightly infuriating, and definitely not targetted for gamers or even viewers of all kinds. It’s for straight men (Not that straight men are bad) It’s just, content that is conducted for them tends to be boring, mind-numbing and slightly lewd for no reason other than to jack off to.
One of my favourite things about Dragon's Dogma fans is that the majority find Julien incredibly hot right up until the point he starts speaking.
Just, dont speak Julien. You're much more attractive that way.
"How do I know you're not attempting to poison me? Arisen,"
"Oh Julien, I can't possibly poison you till you've paid me for this job,"
