It had only been three weeks since her rescue. A rescue she hadn’t wanted, hadn’t ask for. The castle was nice, but Sera found it upsetting. There was no comfort to its perfect walls and rooms. There was no destruction here, but that bothered her so much. The queen, her... mother, expressed joy at having her home for the first time in almost ten years, but she found the parties and celebrations boring. The prince, the one who had taken her away from her home, was looking forward to their impending marriage, not realizing that Sera held contempt in her heart for him. The only reason she had not outwardly expressed her disdain was because he had left her dragon unharmed. However, Sera didn’t want to marry him. She did not want to remain as a lady of the court, waiting for her time to claim the throne. She wanted to return to her dragon and the life she’d known. She wanted to fly, to stroke his wings, to run and be free, not stuck in a gilded cage. Even now, she was forced to sit there as knights from the guard came forward to pledge their loyalty to the prince who’d brought the precious princess back from the ruined castle. They pledged their loyalty to the kingdom, giving over their swords and lives in case the dragon should return to the kingdom looking for his treasure. Sera could only hope that he would. And yet, there was an almost eerie feeling as knight after knight came forward. They bored her, upset her. She had half a mind to walk out until one knight came forward who seemed to carry himself differently. Sera did not recognize him from her short time back at the castle. She had not seen him in the guard before, and yet he caught her attention, and she needed to understand why.
