Buster Keaton in a detail from the poster for Sergeant Deadhead (1965)
#MovieMonday “Sergeant Deadhead,” 1965 is the last of the ‘beach movies’ Buster Keaton made, although there was no beach. There was, however, some questionable electrical wiring.
This Day In Buster…August 18th 1965…
‘Sergeant Deadhead’ was released…into space ;) A musical starring Frankie Avalon & the majority of the beach party movie alumni, whereby the titular Sergeant accidentally gets blasted into space with a chimpanzee. Buster Keaton plays Private Blinken. The scriptwriter, Deke Hayward didn’t bother to write in any gags for Buster, ‘Buster does a bit here’ was the only direction. They knew best!
Sergeant Deadhead (1965)
Sigh...I'm really trying here but hey; it's the thought that counts!
So on YouTube, there was a time where you could easily access the military comedy film Sergeant Deadhead (1965). Pat played the President, an obvious dig at LBJ. He was only in the last 20 or so minutes of the film and you could only see the back of his head, but the credits and that unmistakeable voice was his.
Now, MGM has removed the film from YouTube for copyright reasons, which makes sense. I only watched it specifically for Pat's scene(s), and other than that it was nothing to write home about, except for a particularly amusing line from Frankie Avalon.
Here's the poster. Pat himself isn't on it since we don't see his face in the film, but his name is!

And I kid you not, Pat's character is literally called "The President." No actual name (assuming it's supposed to be LBJ, who was the actual President at the time the movie was released). But I like to joke that his first name is "The," last name "President."
I swear. (Source: IMDb)
