I think the consensus narrative is that elvis borrowed heavily from black artists before him.

Who doesn't borrow though? There's two categories here. Those that were heavily influenced by black artists and there's those that stole songs from black artists. Elvis was influenced by black artists and borrowed, but didn't steal, at least to my knowledge. He publicly acknowledged black musicians that influenced him, and this actually pissed off racists whites at the time.

Idk. I think Elvis deserves a hood pass.
