Its nice reading science fiction like Labyrinth of Reflections by Sergey Lukyanenko, Ready Player One (Ernest Cline) and few others of similar nature..  And in similar nature, I mean cyberpunk novels where people live in relatively orderly fashion inside a virtual reality... Where they speak to each other like humans should in real life -- politely and coherently--- and their avatars look mostly human... Thats such beautiful vision(makes you wonder how the authors feel now) and nothing like real life VR that we have now... But thanks to what we have now its nice to imagine what Labyrinth of Reflections would be like if Leonid´s avatar was... Lets say deformed Shrek or levitating bowl of pasta.

Currently reading The Last Watch and innthe second story, right when Gesser called for a meeting, there is a side character who stutters. I'm listening to an audiobook and I don't know why, but it's so nice to encounter stuttering characters "in the wild" and hearing it making into the book without "smoothing" that part of a person. 🥺😭

More representation for that, please.

Finished the book a couple of days ago. Posting some of my fav moments under the cut in two parts, since there are way too many screenshots to fit in under one post.

Edgar appreciation:

"No, not you." Lmao. Edgar becomes something so interesting throughout the book. The train sequence is all of my favs in the entire series. I find it very interesting and absolutely hilarious at times.

I find this one hilarious. Imagine a bat that is as huge as a german shepherd that sits on top of a train and stares at you through a window. "Голову свесить" lmao. This is such a cartoonish image in my head.

I cannot express how much this makes me laugh every time I read the book. Lmaooo.

And that's partly why I think Anton should've worked with Zavulon in the Day Watch or be an Inquisitor. Since, you know, Geser and Zavulon still work together from time to time and share responsibilities.

Edgar gets it. Edgar doesn't care whether Geser and Zavulon are the most powerful mages ever. If they need to be jailed, they will be.

Zavulon appreciation:

Immediately thinking about Alisa. This, too, tells a LOT about Zavulon. He's an asshole and I love him. Not thrilled about him being racist but hey. He's supposed to be a villain and he kind of is.

So much can be said about Zavulon. I love that dude and how we learn about him and his personality through the things he did and the things people think about him.

I love how Zavulon continues his thought here. I also love his sneers and laughs. Love it when he has fun.

On one hand, Anton is often disgusted by Geser and his actions. On another, he still trusts him and his experience, and seeks out his opinion on things.

This one surprises me I think. He was ready to leave the Night Watch, but then he went, "What's your advice?" Dude. No one could decide for you. No one should be able to. You should be able to form your own opinion on things and stand by them, no matter what Geser thinks.

Honestly, the relationship that Zavulon and Geser have... Zavulon is nasty, in a fun way. Geser is nasty in a derogatory way.

Ah yes, Not only Boris and Arkady Strugatsky's influence is very obvious in this book, it references my beloves Monday Begins on Saturday (and then the book that is meh for me, but it's still obvious Lukyanenko read and probably enjoyed it: Roadside Picnic)

Spoilers. Part 2.

In this post, there are mostly moments for Anton x Zavulon (my beloved), Anton x Kostya, Zavulon x Kostya. And a bit of Zavulon appreciation. :)

Anton x Zavulon:

Curious to see how bigger problems would look for Anton. :) I'm sure Zavulon has maaany ideas.

Also, dude, he offers you his help in the next book, saves your life by sending you a teenage werewolf, and then gifts you his own car down the line. You're practically married.

This one is also for Anton x Kostya, but the way Zavulon kind of tries to comfort Anton? I'm biased. If I were to choose one ship in this universe, I would easily go for this one. Zavulon with Anton is everything.

I like how Zavulon gives Anton the knowledge of something so powerful, he never risked to try it. I get it, he wouldn't be too sad if Anton also died, but it's also some kind of support? To fight Kostya that is stronger than all of them Zavulon gives Anton just as powerful weapon? I love this moment.

This is a Zavulon appreciation, as much as Anton x Zavulon. Anton literally hears him in his head. C'mon.

Anton x Kostya:

A vampire, two Inquisitors, and one mage walk into a bar...

And he winked at him, you see. What is this if not flirting.

I could categorize it in a more generic post but I think this also shows Anton's feelings about Kostya. I like that he calls him "урод", as in what an asshole, here.

Judging by many things, Kostya had a one sided crush on Anton. And Zavulon? I appreciate him and his mind. I love me some good villains.

Also, "with curiosity". Also, "какой же от отморозок". Oh, Zavulon, I love you. Screw Geser, he's boring and a liar.

He did sound so sad about it. He really did want Anton by his side.

And another reference to Strugatsky Brothers. It's from Roadside Picnic and is one of my fav quotes.

Zavulon x Kostya:

Zavulon: canonically thinks that werewolves and vampires are lesser than other mages. Me, when something like this happens: I ship them. "Способный мальчик, перспективный." Sharing a glass of wine. :')

Also. I can only guess what Zavulon would do if he had Svetlana on his side. But no, she definitely belong to the light. She wouldn't work with the darkness. That's just not who she is.

"Ласково сказал Завулон." Guys. There was no need for this, and yet. Also, calling Anton and Edgar a good company? And "You'll like it"? Dude. I ship Zavulon with Anton SO hard.

Plus, all the things that Zavulon and Kostya could have had. How close they could've been. If this book didn't end Kostya, daaaamn.

On the other hand, it's kind of in character for Kostya? A sweet kid that got himself a Fuaran for the sake of turning everyone and making everyone equal. Except that they would still have to be initiated, so the outcome would have been a mess.

But then "Насмешливый взгляд в мою сторону". But Zavulon DID look at you. Yes, this is kind of a reach, but I find this one 👀.

the fandom is tiny and non existent. good thing Zavulon gifted Anton his own car and is very open minded about stuff. I'm thinking about finishing all the books and maybe writing something for them.

Anton and Zavulon kiss and make love.

upd: Anton being in love with Zavulon and Gesser despising it and their relationship. 😍 yet, he can't do anything. Anton is there to stay. a big 'fuck you' to Gesser.

I started rereading The Last Watch after I finished The Twilight Watch and damn. Zavulon and Anton should definitely kiss.
