Would I be late for Finnish class? I didn’t want to wait two more hours to eat as I was already hungry. So I rushed making supper and eating. Left Rover at home and drove to the university. My classroom was dark and no one was there. It was ten past. Then I recalled some mention of language labs upstairs. Maybe that’s where they were. The door was held ajar so I pushed through and turned on the light. There was nothing on the chalkboard. No room number where they went. So I turned the light back off and went towards a stairwell. There was a list saying what was on different floors. I didn’t see language labs. So I asked a student who was reading but she didn’t know. I was just turning way to try the other staircase when I heard my name called. It was my friend from Toastmasters. She teaches Mandarin in a classroom close by. She was playing pool. I wondered what she had done with her students. Maybe she had given them a test to do without her. I told her I couldn’t find my class and why wasn’t she in hers? She said it’s early. Class wasn’t for another 45 minutes. Turns out I planned my exit from home based on the unchanged stove clock while cooking supper. So we played pool until class. I’m going to go early and play with her every week now.
