Is Severance Good?
Recently I watched Severance, for once, wanting to be up to date with the new stuff ✨and I...absolutely loved it!
Severance itself is a process where you are…’severed’. You have a work self and a personal life self. Your work life and personal life are so utterly separated you don’t even remember what happened when you enter and before you left. On the other hand, there’s a part of you that knows nothing of life (even their past life) and only enters and never really leaves. Of course, a concept like this immediately invites the thought that something malevolent is happening at the job: Why else would this technology be used? Even more, why one huge company, Lumon, developed it and applied it to their workers?
Mark Scout is our severed Main Character, whose journey we follow ‘above world’ as an ‘outie’, at work underground as an ‘innie’, where he is not Mark Scout but Mark S.
The main focus of character development in Season 1 focuses on the ‘innies’ and eventually a bit more on the ‘outies’ as well in Season 2. And honestly…I love my ‘innies’ the most! Come on, all the potential from a separate person with no past memories who find themselves having to work over and over and wanting to free themselves from it is amazing. ❤️
Not only the way the characters develop but all the dynamics they develop inside their work, gosh, so many wonderful friendships, paternal relationships and romance!
I wish I could talk a lot more but I want this to be very spoiler free, come on, why not just watch it? 19 episodes with the standard 45 minutes runtime each, I’m sure you’ve wasted more time watching other shows! It is not very long and it’s so interesting all throughout! Truly I hope you can give it a chance to fall in love with characters such as Helly/Helena, Irving, Cobel, Gemma and feel mad at but lovingly hating characters like Mr. Milchick.
