And then you realize you are all under the mercy of God. God's forgiveness is bigger than yours. You literally have to give God EVERYTHING you have - including your hurt, pain, lack of forgiveness, suffering. You literally can only really take care of your own soul and deal with your own sins. It was a real life, loud and clear "take care of the beam in thine own eye" experience.
Without a lack of understanding no learning could happen...
