Matt: Harry, your hair is so long! My God!
Harry: Is is? Wait ‘til a couple more months from now.
Q: When the Malec storyline was introduced, how did everyone react, and Harry and Matt, how did you approach it?
Matt: Just to start, the storyline for Malec was there from the beginning. Obviously there were some adaptations through the seasons where it went in different directions than it was in the books. but it was approximately the same. What was our reaction, Harry? I think it was a desire to do it right. It was a very popular thing from the books, so we wanted to make sure people were as happy with our performance and our depiction.
Harry: Yeah, we tried as hard as we could, and at that moment, I think it was more like “Oh yeah, I got the role of Magnus Bane” but then it was more like “Malec! Malec!” and I was like “What is a Malec?” [laughter] So it was like a character of its own, and that was fun to dissect and figure out. But I think the coolest part was the support from the rest of the cast. Like, really loving that story and I think at a couple of table reads there were sniffles and people crying or people were giggling and stuff, so it was good to have that kind of energy around while shooting the show.
Dom: It was the best storyline
Kat: You guys killed it! You did an incredible job, I was always in awe. And yes, the sniffles. Guilty as charged.
Matt: It definitely had the best arc, right? Because from the beginning to end it was a full story.
