I'm going a little insane tonight because what do you MEAN the ship that the british government sent shackleton to rescue his crew from elephant island was the discovery??? the ship that sent him home from the antarctic twelve years earlier in unofficial disgrace?? the ship that probably housed all kinds of memories of scott and wilson and everybody else who wasn't with them?? I know he finagled the yelcho to rescue them because he didn't think the british government's ship would get there fast enough, but I wonder if he also partly did it because he knew it was the discovery they were sending. because he would have known it was a slower ship and his men needed him fast, and because he didn't want to use scott's old ship.
