THE SEASON 2 TEASER HAS ARRIVED
(SPOILERS FOR SEASON 1 AHEAD)
So we finally have the first season 2 teaser for inside job, and it’s only logical to break it down.
The first very obvious thing we see which probably will be an important arc throughout s2 is Reagan starting off this season where we saw Rand started off last season- essentially becoming everything she despised.
Considering where we left off at the end of season 1 with Reagan’s relationship with her dad- finding out he erased her memories of her only childhood friend so she’d follow the path he laid out for her and eventually take over Cognito Inc- this is a pretty interesting development.
It’s Reagan’s hatred of Rand that ends up making her step into his shoes, just like Rand’s hatred of JR ended him up in the place he was in s1, showing how they’re really not that different.
I’m guessing this arc will eventually be resolved with some sort of personal growth for Reagan- something along the lines of “she’s not that different from her dad, but she doesn’t have to be exactly like him and can learn from his mistakes” mixed with realising that as awful as Rand as has been as a father, people are flawed, even parents, and you can’t punish them for making mistakes while raising you.
This has been a sub-plot in the previous season (episode 8), where Reagan was joyous at the idea Buzz Aldrin might be her father because she hated who Rand had been as a parent (criticising her best inventions, further increasing her self-esteem issues) until she found out he was a murderer. Though we’ve seen her come to terms with Rand’s questionable parenting, it would be interesting to see how Reagan comes to terms with building herself in her father’s image- a result of her seeking his approval but never being able to get it in her childhood- possibly go through an identity crisis, and maybe accept that she is who she is because of her father, but also because of herself.
We don’t see much of the rest of the crew, except Brett, who seems to have become more responsible and level-headed in the wake of Reagan dealing with her father being back in-charge. It’ll clearly be difficult for Reagan to take orders from her dad, considering she spent the first season looking after him, and what she’s discovered about him controlling her in the past.
Rand seems to be as unhinged as usual, intent on not listening to the Shadow Board, which is bound to stir up trouble somewhere in the season. He’s also intent on winning back Reagan and Tamiko, which might be a hint toward how he’ll further alienate the people he loves by trying to gain the upper-hand in a situation and having some sort of power over them- presumably to stop them from leaving and/or manipulating them to be just how he wants them to be.
There’s also a gag on having him in charge ending up in the world getting destroyed, which could be an Easter egg for one of the episodes. This might also be a reference to Rand crumbling under the pressure of being in charge of controlling the world, which was why he got an early retirement in the first place.
I’m curious to see what they do with ROBOTUS, whom I think Reagan will eventually end up going to for help to overthrow Rand, or maybe ROBOTUS will be successful in manipulating Rand to let him out. Who knows?
All in all, the teaser seems to hint towards a roller coaster of a season even better than, if not as good as, the first one.
