The fire is blazing in the stove, warming the backs of your thighs and calves as it casts your shadow across the living room floor. You’re wonderfully warm, and comfortable, but all you have to do is glance at the floor to know that it’ll be freezing. It’s always freezing in your house, but you’ve found that it’s rather par for the course. Having been stuck in here for literal months, you’re fairly familiar with the layout of the place.
Your shadow moves, shifts, coalesces into Inkling’s familiar, malleable shape, great clawed fingers gesturing to either side. There are three different bottles of spelled ink, so thick it may as well be paint, three brushes, and a shallow bowl of water on your left. On the right is The Thorn Bay Historical Almanac, a kitschy book put out by the local museum that houses it’s fair share of real spells. A soft hand towel sits beside it, just in case any of the ink or water spills onto the floor. Inkling might have promised that nothing will stain, but the wood is old-
