Chapter 4: Shadows of Time
Narrated by Sonya.
Narrator: Who knew the photo would stay with carousel and the fairground?
Narrator: Two days after meeting with Helz, I saw the photo when I visited the amusement park’s reopening.
Narrator: It stuck around for more than 10 years in commemoration of the good time I had in Flowerland.
Narrator: But during that time, I left Flowerland before moving to Ninir with my parents.
Narrator: I kept up with Luna and Egg Tart through mail for the first few years.
Narrator: But then the war happened. I moved again and we lost touch.
Narrator: Ninir is heavily into aesthetics and a haven for talented artists and designers.
Narrator: Luna and Egg Tart’s encouragement, especially for the contest, have always driven me.
Narrator: Stroke by stroke, I continued with my dream of being a designer.
Narrator: And I already filled up the big sketchbook long ago.
Narrator: But I think about them often.
Narrator: The amusement park was crowded on the first day of the reopening.
Narrator: With a map in hand, I looked for the carousel I remembered dearly.
Narrator: The amusement park has been shut down ever since the war. It wasn’t renovated until recently and now even operated at night.
Narrator: It was almost completely different from the small fairground in my school days.
Narrator: In front of a photo vendor, my attention was drawn to a somewhat old photo in a glass case.
Narrator: It was of a girl with red orange hair standing before a colorful carousel, nothing but anticipation in her eyes.
Narrator: Seeing my schoolgirl picture made me realize just how long it’s been.
Narrator: But the soft sunset and colorful carousel seemed beyond time and space, which comforted me.
Narrator: The seller, of course, wasn’t the photographer.
Narrator: It reminded me of Luna and Egg Tart again.
Narrator: How are they doing? Do they still live in Flowerland?
Narrator: Is Luna still clever, nimble? Does she love to look at the world below from the Ferris wheel?
Narrator: Does Egg Tart still follow Luna around everywhere?
Narrator: The thought made me giggle.
Narrator: They wouldn’t be the school kids I still remembered in my mind. Like me, they probably changed a lot, too.
Narrator: I couldn’t help but tried to picture what they’re like now.
Narrator: A brand new carousel suddenly came into sight. It looked like a castle out of a dream.
Narrator: Under the glittering dome, along with the upbeat rhythm, the fine saddles were colorful.
Narrator: Children rode it around and around to a lively tune.
Narrator: While it’s totally different from what I remembered, the joy it brought never changed.
Narrator: Do you still remember me as well, Luna and Egg Tart?
