Okay, new headcanon.

The War Doctor went to gather all of the different versions of the 8th and 9th Doctor that were splintered from the Time War (EDAs 8, RTD Time War 8, Shalka 9, TCoFD 9 and 13, the Infinity Doctor, etc.) and they all willingly sacrificed their timelines (the Moment basically defines the Day of the Doctor outcome as the "true" ending of the War) to save Gallifrey.
