Since I saw the armour I just wanted to feel it, the way the silk sits together and binds to make this unique lace pattern. I wanted it to be an interaction for everyone to have the experience and really feel that pattern as it repeats across the armours plates. Once I’d sketched the samurai inside the plates of armour I began peeling back the first layer with a carving knife revealing this rough-textured pattern behind. Using the knife I was able to cut sections from the texture and build a repetitive pattern that looked much like the one from the museum. The six words I chose were displayed on thin strips of cardboard in script calligraphy. Sticking each stripe on the six sides placed much like a symbol it changed the perspective of the type separate pieces that represented the samurai’s intentions on revenge.
