My CSMP takeaway
There once was a son of God. He was a faithful and obedient son who did his best to not disobey his Father, because he wanted to be a son who always did the right thing. Also, the son had siblings. These siblings would rebel against their Dad and some of them would run away, while others just weren’t as obedient compared to the son, or so the son thought to himself. That being said, the son would notice how these other siblings would receive gifts and/or more responsibilities than him from their father, for what seemed to be no good reason. It did not help that the son did not feel like he had friends fighting for him like his siblings had. The son was bitter in his heart because he thought he was doing his job but not feeling loved and fought for in the way that he appreciated compared to these other siblings. Not so for God, his Father. The Father wanted to show the son that everything He has is the son’s already as the son has always been by His side. As for the siblings, they were lost but now found and that deserves celebration. The son did not have a thankful heart and because of that, he skipped out on the celebrations for his siblings instead of being able to rejoice with them that they are also loved by God.
As he learned to be a more thankful person, though, he realized that he merited nothing anyways and everything he had was a gift from his Father. Knowing this, he served out of a thankful heart and was able to experience so much more of the world and the mission that God had for him and will have for him in the future. God wants this son to become a thankful person who can freely follow what the Spirit says, to love people even if they are different, the relationship is temporary, or he gets nothing in return, just like his brother Philip (the Evangelist).
More on Philip another time..
