So we are starting to head towards the end of slipping through my fingers, and in the time I've been writing it, I feel like a) my ringing in general, but b) my grasp on the characters has improved.
And I'm sort of tempted to write another Troy fic, with him being traded without the video, but this time he isn't hiding seizures, he's hiding a daughter (and maybe a little sister.) He took custody of his sister when he was maybe 19, because he didn't want her with his father, unfortunately being in hockey and with both him and the sister being from such a bad environment they aren't the most stable, especially with her constantly having to be with baby sitters, but he refuses to let her fall into the system.
And then when he's like 21-23 he is at own of Dallas's parties, and he doesn't really want to sleep with some girl, but she does (I am incapable of letting this man have had zero of my trauma) and ends up pregnant. She basically leaves the baby on his doorstep, and Troy now has his already traumatised sister and now a child. Luckily he can like afford babysitters, but he's really struggling, and tries to keep this secret from everyone.
Maybe the altercation that happens with Dallas is something about his sister, Dallas knows about the kids and makes some weird comment or something. Troy fights him over it and gets traded. No one knows why, because Troy is desperate to keep this all secret.
Then the Centaurs, who now have no context for why he was traded are really expecting the worst...becuase it's barrett. And no one will even say why he was traded. It had to be bad.
Like you just know Harris, and all the cens, would adore these children.
