Calm in Midgar was a rarity to grasp. It often existed purely in the mind — other instances, it was when enough danger lurked in shadows and alleys to ward off civilians from lingering in the streets. He supposed however, that the latter did not involve genuine calm. Too many people plunged head first in holiday celebration, and the sheer amount of decorations and jaw aching cheer had the Turk's head spinning. Bars were supposed to be for drowning out melancholy and rage equally as they were for trying to get laid. What kind of attention was some sweaty santa hat wearing moron expecting to receive?
When applied pressure to his temples did not suffocate his headache ( as it never did ), the redhead fished out his last and really only go to for achieving stress relief. A cigarette — Reno's last cigarette. Perhaps for the day or until the new year. Who fucking knew. It was the last in the pack anyway, and Reno hardly bothered to dispose of the carton appropriately. The taste already hitting lips, the flick of the lighter, and fire dancing in gemstone eyes . . . the ritual was wonderful. He drew up the fur lined hood of his over sized onyx jacket and stuffed his free hand within the pocket to keep out the cold; it was chilly enough to bring about ferocious snow.

The end of the cigarette lit up further red with a deep inhale. Then, beyond the steady stream of smoke, eyes focused on what stood beyond. Bright hair and a seemingly innocent face. Was she blind to trouble or was that precisely why the wave was directed his wave? Reno removed the cigarette from between his lips and allowed the excess smoke to mingle with the condensation of his breath. Hand still holding the cigarette offered a weak wave back as a single slender eyebrow drew up with curiosity.
