I am honestly so so SO impressed with how much Berseria finally feels like a Tales game after all this time ;A; the plot feels so comfortable yet always has me guessing and the cast has surprised me so much. Velvet and Laphicet's relationship in particular has been so interesting and amazing to watch develop ;u; Idk how close I am to the end yet but I'm 40 hours in and have loved every moment so far :D
I love Berseria! I’m not that far into it at all (running quests for the Shadow Guild) but it really does feel like a rich world with great characters and interesting compelling villains (something notably absent from the past few games >.>) The character dynamics are great and I just really like how the Abbey is presented. They’re not the good guys, they do horrible things in the shadows, but at the same time you can see why people would support them, and they are tough but fair to their followers. I just really love this setting and running around talking to the NPCs!

Imagine this scene After the pact with volt.
Sheena has been isolating herself a lot, not talking to others, Always walking ahead of the party. She Took the nightshifts for 2 days not being able to sleep, having this Time alone to let it all go by herself, silencing her sobs to not wake them up.
On the third evening, Lloyd being very worried for his friend, kindly reached her, a hand on her shoulder
"- Sheena, tell me if i Can Do anything.. " he said softly.
Sheena, did not say anything for a minute, looking at the floor, hidden behind her bang.
" ... Sorry, i just need some Time.. "
Then she walked away as to Say she would be; again, taking the shift. Lloyd sighed then turned to zelos. The redhead, who secretly observed the ninja since then ((since the begining tho, anyway)), Saw his bud's struggle then decided to go After Sheena.
"Nice try Bud" he said, briefly placing a hand on Lloyd shoulder while walking past him.

She was there, sat on the ground, kinda hidden behind a thin tree. Her knees to her chest and her arms crossed on them; with her gaze Lost far away in the horizon. A kind wind brushed her face as to calm her down a bit as she closed her eyes and took a good breath.
Zelos walked as softly as he could until getting by her right side. He stood right here for a second or two, not saying anything, then sat close to her, in silence, gazing in the same direction.
Her eyes still closed, she knew who was there, she was used to his presence, but she didn't want to deal with his teasings right now.
"- if you are here to make fun of me, you Can go back to the camp. I'm really not in the mood and you know it very well... " sheena said, Her voice trembling as she contained the tears.
Zelos didn't reply nor reacted, he simply gazed at her, giving her some Time to accept him by her side. She did not complain at all.
They sat like this for a moment, in silence, with all the calm sounds of nature arround them and sometimes some voices were heard from the camp but nobody else came.
Zelos reached a hand in front of her, she heard the soft cloth of his glove near her so she opened her eyes.
"- what?
- take my hand, hun.
- Why for? Told ya i'm not-
- Just trust me, please" he cut her
His cerulean eyes were soft, not teasing, he was dead serious and gentle looking at her.
Sheena hated those eyes, she hated them for being so honest sometimes, she hated them for loving them that much...
She sighed, and put her hand in his.
Then before she had a Time to think about what happened, Zelos pulled the Raven haired woman into his strong arms, then hugged her.
She wanted to get out of his embrace but as tired as she was, wasn't strong enough to set free.
"- Zelos let me go" her voice cracked as tears came up quickly to her eyes.
Again she felt as a burden, she didn't want to bother others with her grievance, they still had to get Colette back and it was more important.
" - Sheena, i know you, I waited long enough for you to grieve alone. Everyone is worried, i am worried. I may not show it but yes, i am worried, a lot. "
He tighten his hug so she felt secured enough without feeling stuck. Then her hand set and clinged to his arms gloves. Zelos knew she felt secured enough now, he knew she would let go soon. His chin layed gently on her hair and continued with his deep calm voice
" - you don't have to carry that burden alone, WE are here with you... I am here for you ..
Let us help you princess... "
And then she began to cry, it was all she needed to hear without even knowing. She needed someone to reach her, she needed her dear friend to help her although she denied that a lot. She needed him, his kindess hidden behind the philanderer he was..
Relieved she finally let herself cry, Zelos smiled, a bit of guilt for making her cry though, but he knew she needed it. So he held her tight for a minute or two, as long as she needed to feel better.

I did it! I reworked this piece i made in 2021. Some little details were bothering me actually, so i tried to change some of them and i finally GOT the result i wanted!
Cropped a bit of the background so sheena and zelos are not Lost in the image and this light effect are adding depth to the pièce ✨ really happy with it.
Anyway, short story Time

11 pm, Mizuho was calm and silent, there was some flower's leftovers spreaded on the dirt paths of the village. Each home had a little incese stick burning in their porch.
It would soon be a week since igaguri passed... In a day or two mizuhohans would stop all the ceremonial, his soul would be guided to the right place already.
People had to grieve their guide, their leader, their chief and soon sheena would be their New one. She already did everything to take over igaguri's responsabilities... But she was still grieving a lot... Too much, to be honest, so people were kinda worried about how the next operations and missions would go if she didn't recover.
For once, they were glad the former Chosen was here, at her side. Usually when Zelos came to visit Sheena, he was not really the most welcome, mizuhohans don't really appreciate outsiders in their precious village. But they were kinda used now to see him sometimes.
The village was silent, until a loud sound came from sheena's hut. As if a piece of heavy fourniture fell on the floor.
Paper flew to the ground while the little table she was using as her desk was flipped to a corner of the room.
She was panting, a pearl of tear in the corner of her eye.
Zelos was sitting behind her, not far away in the little room; waiting for her to calm down. He didn't interfere, nor said anything. He observed her figure from head to toes and her legs became a bit shaky. She Took her face in her hands and fell her knees to the ground, right next to a finished bottle of sake.
" how am i supposed to do all of this? why did he want ME to be their chief? I'll never be able to make it... " she said out of breath
" you know that you are able, hun." Zelos assured serving himself a last cup of sake, almost finishing the second bottle. "He knew you are brave enough, strong enough, wise enough to be their lead. Plus you are dead sexy too"
Sheena flipped to face him, her hair a bit messy, and her cheeks a strong Shade of red, she pouted semi angrily, and a bit drunk-like. She wanted to reply something but nothing went to her mouth, she watched him sip his cup and put it by his side on the floor as if he did not drank a drop of it before this last cup, then he began to take his gloves off.
" it's hot in there, this sake is kinda strong tho, i may have drank too much, and so do you" he said pointing his index to her.
She watched him silently, a strange feeling growing inside her. Why this stupid Chosen was this handome? But why was he so annoying? Why was he there at her house since igaguri passed ? Why did he not headed back to meltokio instead of annoying her everyday?
He stayed, for..her? Sure her grandpa was not his priority. But He Always wait silently by her side, rubbing her shoulder, her hand or her head when she cried. He had made breakfasts and dinners cheering her to eat at least a bit, because she wasn't hungry at all since then. He even called her by her name more than by those stupid nicknames... he respected her boundaries?? At least he tried and she noticed only now... It have been minutes she was watching him, saying nothing, her gaze sometimes directed at him, sometimes at the ground as if she was thinking about so many things at once.
Zelos tilted his head a little concerned
" do i have something on my face, hun? You may stop dri-"
Not even knowing why, she rushed to him, grabbed his pink coat and kissed him; throwing them a bit backward and shoving the unfinished sake bottle on the tatami. Zelos put his elbows to the ground to not totally fall on it. His eyes widened but he did not fight against this sudden kiss... he closed his eyes, His hands adventured on her head, keeping her close to him, lightly reaching her ribbon to losen her hair. All of his soul was boiling hot now, and so did hers.
- i'm too Dizzy - she thought to herself
His lips were soft and his breath so sexy and his touch so-
"wait, wait wait Sheena !" He cut the kiss suddenly pushing her a bit from him a hand on her shoulder
"what? " she said out of breath and a bit irritated from this sudden stop "isn't it what you wanted?"
"of course not! " she widened her eyes, a stabbing sensation went throught Her Heart and stomach.
"No it's not what -... i mean, yes but... " he continued embarassed by the way he said no, aware of the arsh way he spoke " i can't lie i really ... Want to, i - that was - wow, but... I can't with you in that state" he finished softly as she looked at him a Ray of sad in her eyes -why am i sad tho? She thought. WHAT DID SHE JUST DO THO???
He cupped her face in his hands and put his forehead to hers, closed his eyes and Took a deep breath.
"you are drunk, and i don't wanna abuse you like that..i ..... " Zelos marked a 10 seconds silence, Took a deep breath and whispered" i love you too much for this"
He said it, After all those years, he finally declared his love to her... He blushed a bit drunk too but not as much as her. His head still on hers
She blinked, her face still red, reddened even more. It Took her a hot second to print his words on her Brain. She backed up a bit and smiled softly (and drunkey)
"that's kind of you, i'll remember that -stupid Chosen" she said falling in his arms, asleep.

The next morning she woke UP on her futon, scraching her head, her hair messy, her head spinning from the last night. Her kimono still on her but opened and her long pink ribbon folded by the side of the bed.
"What the hell happened?"

I think it might be because the original dub track is hard to fit on the HD remaster? I remembered hearing someone mention that before so I can only assume. I’m kind of interested to hear it though! The cast is solid :D Though Sam Vincent as Athrun will be missed ;o;
I could have sworn I’ve seen the old dub applied to the remaster somewhere... but yeah that makes sense, though it still seems kinda strange that a brand new dub would be commissioned (especially with how many Gundam series didn’t get any dub. I still think not dubbing Turn A was a huge missed opportunity!)
I didn’t really like Seed’s original dub but maybe this one will be better ^^

I know this is a post to vent frustrations but how is that game? :D For someone like myself who really only plays Tales and FF games do you think it would be enjoyable?
Ahaha I think half of my posts are just me vaguely venting about something XD (finally got through that awful hacking section at least >.>)
The game is excellent! :D It has a great character driven story so I would recommend it for that alone! As for the gameplay, how familiar are you with Platinum Studio games like Bayonetta? The game plays like an action RPG, you have a variety of weapons to choose from, and a support pod for long range and special attacks (this is your best friend). It’s really fun and chaotic. There’s a demo that takes you through the first section of the game if you want to try it out to get a feel for the gameplay and the tone :)

I loved Zestiria’s cast but the story really didn’t make me jazzed about the world, so that’s pretty much why I’m not too excited to revisit it, like you said 8’D But yeah, that intro is kick-ass so you never know! :D
My biggest worry about Berseria is that it’s essentially going to be playing clean up to Zestiria’s story/setting and not fully standing on its own (unlike Symphonia & Phantasia) Just about everything I know about Berseria has a big red “And this is how it connects to Zestiria” stamp all over it ^^”
