She Kills Monsters deserves more attention!!!!

For those of you who don’t know what SKM is, it’s a play that revolves around D&D, with a female-heavy cast and LGBT subplot. It’s about 24 year-old Agnes Evans, and her 15 year-old deceased, lesbian sister, Tilly. Agnes finds Tilly’s D&D game module and decides to play it to find out more about her sister before she died.

My high school is currently putting this play on for production and I play *SPOILERS* Lilith/Lilly, Tilly’s crush/love interest!

This play is so important in today’s society and i’m sad that it’s so underrated!! The play portrays being gay in the 90s so well and what it’s like to be a closeted lesbian, along with badass combat and tech potential! When I first heard about this play, I was estatic! As a bisexual fem, i’m so glad that i’m able to rep my fellow closeted people/bisexuals through my character, Lilith!

I also love how female-heavy this play is, only 1/3 of the characters are men. It’s hard to find media that has more than 1-2 female characters, so it’s so refreshing to see something so powerful be repped by girls! :)

Even if you don’t particularly like D&D, this play is still VERY MUCH worth checking out for its accurate LGBT representation and plotline.

I went to a DnD themed play in Philly this evening :)

I love seeing how creators show their love for this game. The play was fun and really showed off the magic that brings people to the table. It was awesome.

I am so happy! I just got cast in the lead of my school play! The play is She Kills Monsters, and its basically D&D afterlife, it is such a cool play and I feel so honored to be apart of it. I have auditioned for so many plays and though my last play I did get the part I wanted it wasn’t the lead and it is so amazing that after so much hard work my director recognizes everything I’ve done and has given this to me!

"It's a play that portrays young women as powerful leaders, guides, sages. And I think that's important right now," says director Amanda McRaven. "It's a play that normalizes a gay central character which I think is really important... It is a highly theatrical event that invigorates the space between people and allows the audience to experience something alive that they can't find anywhere else." She Kills Monsters opens Friday, February 17, and closes on Sunday, February 26 with a preview performance on Thursday, February 16. Performances run Tuesday through Saturday at 8pm, with three matinee performances at 2pm on Saturday, February 18, Saturday, February 25, and Sunday, February 26. Performances are in the Studio Theatre, inside the Theatre Arts Building, on the southeast corner of the CSULB campus, accessible via East Campus Drive. Tickets are $17 for general admission and $14 for seniors, students, and CSULB faculty and staff (with valid ID). Parking is available for $7 in CSULB Parking Lot 7, next to the theatre. Yesterday at my university was the opening of "She Kills Monsters", where I was the costume designer! That's why I had disappeared off the face of the planet--it was a long time coming.
