Don't get me wrong I love L. O. T. R but... I can't help the feeling that the eagles could have just dropped the ring into mount doom. End film. Roll credits. And I know what's coming. Just a thought.
Hi! I know that's a common complaint but it disregards the actual story (that I'll admit wasn't really explained in the film's): the Eagles were as ancient as the Elves and just as proud and powerful, but they were also just as sentient. The king of the Eagles was friends, as much as an eagle and and a wizard angel can be friends, so that's why he rescued Gandalf from Isengard and also rescued Frodo at the end. But putting the ring of power near an eagle would've been as dangerous as putting it near Boromir or Denethor or any other being. The ring corrupts wholly and the Eagles would've taken it because they weren't like Galadriel or Gandalf, they were powerful but didn't have the power to refuse the ring. So tldr, Gandalf could trust them with lives but not with the ring
