Treasure Chest Opened! The Order has acquired an amulet! An odd amulet. At least, this is what the decorative piece could be amounted to with its almost alien, perfectly geometric design. Uncannily perfect; the mercurial metal of the jewelry's making seemed both liquid and solid at once. Despite its ethereal make, one imperfection marred its design: it seemed to be missing a centerpiece, its socketed frame in the face of the pendant woefully incomplete.
Dewitt eyes the box cautiously as she gently tapped her cigar into the small green ashtray on her desk, bits embers dying as they rose into the air. Her face was grim as she stared at it for a few more long moments before finally breaking the silence. "So what do we do with it?"
The witch hunter had stood quietly staring a the amulet as well grimly, his arms crossed over his chest as he scratched at his stubble cheek. "Melt it down would be the safest thing to do."
Rachel snorted and shook her head. "Have you always been this obtuse?"
"Say what you will, but I'm still alive."
Again Rachel would grumble something under breath before putting the cigar in her teeth again, chewing softly on the end before steeping her hands to stare at it. The metal seemed alive in the dim light, like something pulled from the hysteria a few years ago. She remembered some of the brief reports she'd received from Candell before his disappearance. "And you said you found it in Hallowfall?"
"Given," Eld stepped closer to stand opposite the captain as he let his blue eyes rest on the bauble in the small chest. "But by who never got a chance. Kobold delivered it before he took off, never gave a name or reason. Just said he had to get back to his candles and left."
"Did you touch it?"
The thin line of his mouth would tighten harder as he shook his head. "No, I know better."
Captain Dewitt would not as she let her gaze rest on it longer, her stomach twisting a bit the longer she watched it shift in the candlelight. Like it was alive or a squirming mass of worms. It felt wrong on many levels, but so far this new campaign of the worlds to delve was beginning to leave a bad taste to her as well. Again her eyes would rest on the metal and the center piece sitting gaping open, like some rude gaping maw. It felt like it was trying to say something the more she stared, or was it screaming?
The top shut with a click as Eld closed the chest and looked to the commander. "You felt it?"
Rachel blinked a few times as if she was coming out a dream, the cigar in her mouth dropping a large amount of ash onto her chest as her hands clew to dash it out with a curse. "Tides be damned."
Eld nodded again. "We're going to need help on this."
Grumbling the fellow inquisitor would nod as she began to reach into her desk, opening a lock box and already starting to fish out the coin. "I figured as much."
A wrap to the top of the box brought her eyes back up to the elder hunter, his head shaking as he spoke. "We won't need money, I'll call a favor in on this."
"Oh?"
Eld would nod again as he clicked the lock on the chest again with a ominous sound, closing off the squirming thing inside though hardly hiding the memory. "I'll let you know the results."
Rachel dropped her cigar in the ashtray as she nodded. "Be careful with that, that thing is not right."
The witch hunter would offer a grunt as he picked up the chest and made for the door of the office, the crow landing silently on his shoulder as he left. Dewitt did her best not to shiver. She hated that bird.
