Its been two years, finally time to post Subway I think.

My beloved 4 foot long plush millipede made using this free pattern. My magnum opus. My greatest creation. An endless source of joy.

Decided to try out this little cat pattern. Literally the smallest critter ever.

Adelaide v1 update!

The shell is done!

First and foremost, the buttons are now painted and their mechanisms covered with a slightly holographic vinyl decal. It looks a bit iffy up close like this but at a normal distance it looks quite good.

Next up ive added some small foam inserts around the edges of the screen. This helps sell the illusion and keep the inside of the helmet hidden.

And finally I've added a rubber gasket around what i consider the sharp edges of the neck hole. It doesn't look pretty, but its functional. I think i could've gotten this part of the build a lot cleaner if i had any prior experience with power tools, but I don't so it is what it is.

Thanks for reading! I consider this to be v1 finished, so once I muster up the funds I'm on to version 2: the part with the electronics.

Introducing Adelaide v1, my first cosplay project in a little over 3 years.

I consider this the most minimal stage of this project, and plan to expand upon it at a later date, but first I'd like to review a bit about this version of things.

This project started as a broken crt I found on the side of the road. I'd been wanting to make a cosplay for my oc Adelaide, and figured that this would be as good a base as I was going to get. Note that as a crt the screen is somewhat convex.

I expected the most difficult part of this project to be creating the "illusion" of a screen, but in truth it was figuring out a way to wear a tv as a helmet. The final rig is a combination of floral foam, a roller skating helmet, and at least three kinds of glue. Its a bit heavier than I wanted, but I'm willing to make that sacrifice for the assurance that its going to last.

The screen is a pre-cut piece of acrylic with one-way privacy tint applied to it, and was ultimately the most painless part of this whole project.

On to the Issues

Like all projects Adelaide v1 is less than perfect. Some of these imperfections (such as the rattle can paint job) I have learned to live with. Others have easy fixes i need to get around to.

As a consequence of the acrylic screen being flat and the original crt being curved, there are noticable gaps around each edge. I think these could be easily masked with some well placed slivers of craft foam. You can also see that I had to peel off the original vinyl sticker that covered the button mechanisms, and will need to find something to replace it with. Ultimately these are minor.

Less minor is the present state of the neck hole, which is uncomfortable to say the least. Note the hoodie in the first pic. My initial plan was to simply sand this smooth but ive since acquired something to keep the rough edges away from my neck, I need only install it.
