It seems like I go back to these Shimano DX hubs. NOS hubs on ebay help. Just using a Surly cog (that gives 1000s of miles) alone is a good reason to go back to using these hubs. I've never had axle issues with these either. I always upgrade the axle to a hollow 158mm axle and change to alloy spacers with the ultegra left side cone along with a polished cone on the drive side also. The driver did get the older uniglide pawls inside it, too. Alloy nipples, double butted spokes. 2 lbs even. #shimano #shimanodx #shimanomx66 #bmxontheroad #20inchriding

Remember when I broke the driver on this 1981 Shimano DX hub? Well I found a road bike uniglide free hub that has the same press on flange setup, but with a 6 speed uniglide body. I ground the body down to be more of a 5 speed size and still have the lockcog threads. The threads can use a normal English thread lockring instead of the snapring the shimano DX body had. #shimano #shimanodx #vintagehub #vintageshimano

It is nice finding NOS Shimano DX hubs. Ebay still has plenty more. The other DX hub is still being used. This one will be for one more wheel. I'll likely lace it to another Sun CR18, but with double butted spokes. #shimano #shimanodx #bmxhub #bmxontheroad
