As heartbreaking as this scene was, it was my favourite of the episode - partly because I've been listening to the Shine soundtrack a lot these last few weeks, so it was immediately apparent that Mile was singing "Dawn" differently (maybe even raw within the scene?)
On the soundtrack (and later in the episode), this song is clean; Mile's English pronunciation is crisp, with few dropped consonants. But here, this is just Tanwa, playing for himself instead of an audience. This is Tanwa just trying to cope, with knowing something's going to go down at the protest, with knowing Trin is headed there despite his warnings, with knowing there's nothing he can do to stop it now (but that he maybe could have done more when he had the chance...)
Here, we get to feel just as helpless as Tanwa - and just as helpless as Krailert, struggling to get control of the situation, as Trin, trying to save Victor and his friends, and as all of the students running for their lives...
I'd say this is the most effective use of the soundtrack we've seen in the show so far.
