Despite this you've still managed to find the time to listen to your favorite kpop groups, with the CD playing and Key's 3rd album on repeat you find solace in these trying times, dreaming of another world where you got to live the life you've dreamed of. If only you knew just how much you'd come to appreciate those days when prying eyes decide to give you just what you've wished for…
"I've been walking around for hours now and I'm still lost."
You huffed, your sense of direction in a new place wasn't the best and the pamphlet Designer Key had given you wasn't helping at all. Not to mention you could feel a headache coming on from the amount of bright lights and colors that were invading your eyes from the look of the place.
The train had dropped you off in what looked like a mall covered head to toe in Frutiger Aero and as pretty as it was, it almost made you miss the bland off white walls of your apartment.
At least there you could get some peace and quiet...
You eventually just sat down at one of food courts with your head in your hands, you had barely gotten time to get adjusted to the new change in environment and had already, ran for your life, got drugged and then went through hours of outfit changes before being sent on your way to a maze of shops, entertainment, and food courts.
You were exhausted, and the mouthwatering smell of Pizza, Chinese food, Korean BBQ, and burgers was not helping the headache.
"Excuse me, are you lost?"
You looked up, your eyes slightly blurry from the light and other things.
There stood a girl who looked about your age wearing what looked like a mix of white and pink, if you had to guess maybe a more casual y2k aesthetic. Like the stuff from those 2000s magazines of comfortable outfits that somehow cost more than your entire wardrobe.
"Yeah." You sniffled, your movements sluggish and heavy as you sat up from your almost emotional breakdown.
"Would you like for me to escort you to where you need to go."
You thought for a moment, although you'e been taught to never follow strangers you were terrible at directions and worse at asking people for help, anxiety and all,so it wouldn't help to get a little help.
"Yeah please, if that's okay?"
"Of course, come follow me."
You nodded and got up, walking slightly behind her as she wanted about the certain districts in the mall and where to go for certain things like where to shop for certain aesthetics or designs.
"And then this is the section where most first-timers go since it's the easiest to navigate and get through, although some of the longer guests still go here as well, so if you need to ask anyone for help i'm sure you could find someone. Did you eat?"
You looked up, at some point you had spaced out and missed most of what she said, the word eat had caught your attention.
"Huh, oh I didn't"
She nodded, her hands moving as she spoke emphasizing her words.
"Then lets get you some food, and then we'll continue the tour okay?"
You nodded in response, quickly following behind her practically feeling your stomach rumble from the smell alone. You hadn't noticed just how hungry you were until you were in eyesight of the food being served.
"Get whatever you want, i'll pay."
You glanced at her, guilt eating at your conciseness.
"Are you sure?
She nodded smiling, already giving her arm to the worker which surprisingly looked nothing like Key, but was instead clearly a robot made to look like the usual staff workers you'd find at your average mall.
"Of course, I'm the one giving the tour besides I was planning on getting something to eat anyway."
You stood there staring at the food on display, you would've felt bad about using this strangers money if it wasn't for the constant ache in your stomach and pounding in the back of your head begging for sustenance. You decided to get something filling but not messy since you didn't want to ruin the new clothes Designer Key had given you, the complete opposite of her since she got probably the most greasy and filling food there, Loaded fries and a shake. The two of you sat down on one of the court tables nearby and dug into your food, the flavors were impeccable especially on an empty stomach and after that poison disguised as a drink that Bartender Key gave you.
"It's good right?" she beamed, cheeks stuffed with fries, cheese and other sauces.
"Mhm," Is all you could muster after harfing down half the meal in front of you.
"I don't know what it is they put in this stuff, but I need like ten of em." she muffled, you two spent the rest of the meantime eating in delighted silence until you stomachs were full and plates clean.
"So, where you from." She asks in passing, getting comfortable in her seat as she waited for the food to settle.
"America, you?"
The girl smiles softly, "Lebanon" she answers with pride clasping her hands together.
"Cool," You nodded before adding, "How long have you been here?"
She thinks for a moment, doing the math in her head. "Well, this is my third time here. Last time it was two weeks and now it's been about a month." The girl remarked with a sheepish smile.
Your eyes nearly popped out of your skull, you couldn't imagine staying away from for that long let alone in a completely unknown world where time moves differently and requires your dreams to stay in power and it seemed like she could see your thoughts as she followed it up with a rapid yet playful.
"I know, i know but listen if it were anywhere else I wouldn't do it, I couldn't stay for that long y'know but," She started holding in laughter before adding, "I barely get to see any of my favorite Kpop groups in person especially shinee but this makes it easy. Even if it's not real and practically a dream, it's still fun and I get to relax from everyday stuff y'know."
You could understand that, being in America already makes it hard to afford tickets to even one show that you couldn't even begin to imagine what it was like in other countries that barely was mentioned in world tour schedules. It was easy to get lost in all the opportunities this place offered, meeting your favorite idol, talking to them, becoming friends, maybe more. That sounded insane but it was real, here at least, and that's what scared you about this place because nothing that good comes without a price.
"I do plan on going home after two more weeks," she mentioned sipping what was left of her milkshake.
"Y'know some people stay here for as long as a year or more, but that's not really recommended." She mentioned, her fingers messing with the straw in and effort to get more of her drink.
"Really, why?" You'd figure that the goal was to get as many people as possible to stay for as long as possible, why would they try to dissuade people from doing so.
"You know time works differently here right," You nodded, "It's a lot slower then time works in the real world, basically time stops in the real world, but time still moves so the longer you stay here the longer you sleep out there." She paused, You tensed up at the thought of staying in here while your real body slowly got older in the real world, it sent shivers up your spine, but she wasn't done.
"This place puts a lot of strain on the human psyche, it takes a lot to convince the brain that what it's feeling is real and not just a dream or dangerous, which in turn take a lot of energy out of the body. So imagine running a lap for two hours and then taking a 50 page test immediately after...now imagine doing that over and over again for a week straight, that's basically what happens but just slower." She explained it in the best way she could, and although you were a little lots you got the gist.
Your body needed breaks from this place every once in awhile, going for too long could result in overexerting both the mind and the body. Knowing that, suddenly you remembered what Designer Key had said earlier about an "incident" happening before you got there, is this what he meant by incident, did someone stay for too long and suffered because of it, is that why the trains where down for the time being and why you woke up in the dark tunnel. You could've gone on and on about the possibilities but you were cut short by the sound of the girl calling to you.
The two of you had been walking around for a while now, having finally made it out of that Megamall and into the plaza. It was just as big as you had thought, maybe even bigger now that you saw it up close. You definitely would not have been able to figure out all of the directions alone, during your journey you had learned your guide's name was Luna.
Eventually the two of you had reached a booth with the words "registration" at the top, Luna explained that once you give the person at the booth your ID, they'll show you to your room and give a once over of everything you need.
"Okay, they'll take it from here, see you around" She beamed, waving goodbye as she left to go back the way she came.
You couldn't help but keep smiling even after she left, it felt nice to hangout with someone new that wasn't during the restricted hours of work and you didn't feel the need to keep making conversation to pass the time. Before you knew it you were standing in front of the booth, its tinted glass doors giving an added look of privacy and aesthetic.
Things went by quickly, similar to that of a resort or hotel they took a scan of your ID and walked you to your room, it was barren yet aesthetically fruitger aero, white walls with circular glass windows and 2000s posters, comfy bed with the sheets and blankets tucked in too tight with a mini fridge next to the bed and a TV and bathroom and decor reminiscent of 2000s.
It truly felt like a vacation, made especially for you.
You practically crashed onto the bed, laying down for what felt like hours on end.
You take a moment in this time of silence to think about what has happened in the past few hours, in all of your life you never once really believed in the supernatural. Thinking it to be a thing of mind and mentally unwell, purely because you has seen reality with your own two eyes and the supernatural just never fit you idea of it and that you were scared of believing in something that never existed to began with.
But this, this had you rethinking everything, and although you could be wrong, this could all be the work of your stress ridden mind finally having a break and taking time to itself or you could be going crazy, or someone is playing a very big and mean-spirted prank on you.
This could be anything, but for now you chose to take it at face value.
Because in all honesty, you needed to believe in something right now.

If only you knew just how much you'd come to appreciate those days when prying eyes decide to give you just what you've wished for…
This had been going on for what felt like hours, Key or The Designer would pick out an outfit that he would like for you to try on and he'd either give it a thumbs up or immediately tell you to put it back as he picked out a better one. It's not that you were complaining about it, if anything you were excited to be put in a situation where your fav Kpop idol was picking out your clothes for you, however you were expecting him to grab one outfit and let you be on your way, not put you through one of those make over montages that was all the rampage in those early 2000s teen flicks. Besides it wasn't like you had a bad sense of fashion, you just didn't have the time or energy to put on anything nice when you were more focused on work and earning enough to stay alive then looking good.
Speaking of life before this mess, which you're still not sure whether or not if you've lost it or you're having a very lucid dream.
"Hey, do you mind if I ask you some questions?" You figured that asking now was better than never.
"Sure, go ahead!" He called back from the closet.
"What is this place?" You asked, fiddling with your hands and picking at the chipped nail polish, a bad habit you never got over but it was better then picking at the hangnails that made themselves known thanks to your habit of forgetting to put on hand lotion.
"This is The Pleasure Shop, where you came from is called The Entrance Bar." He answered back, still searching through hangers of clothes after clothes making small notes to himself about the designs of the clothing.
"Right, right cool,"
"Would you happen to know, how I got here?" You cringed, a tingle of nervousness crawled up your spine as you waited for a response.
Key on the other hand, quickly peered in from the closet at you with surprised expression.
"Did he not tell you?" He asked, a look of concern across his face as he held onto the doorway.
You shook your head, assuming he meant the bartender since he was the only other person you met here.
He seemed to sigh and shake his head as he returned to what he was doing, "of course he didn't, I swear he thinks the world revolves around him."
He swears quietly to himself before coming out with a pile of folded clothes in his hands, he hands them to you with sigh.
"Don't mind him, he's just upset that the higher ups demoted him to the bar."
You watched as he walked back over to his desk, pulling up the chair to the computer before heading to the changing room, a second hidden door directly next to the closet. It was odd how close together they were since they both looked larger on the inside but at this point you were starting to get used to the oddities of this place.
"This world serves as a second home to many, and a place that allows others to live out their dreams without real world consequence, it was in the pamphlet that came with your album. We bring in people from your reality while they sleep and analyze their dreams to give them the best experience possible, time works differently here so while it might feel like days in here, it's merely nanoseconds in your world."
You could hear him typing away as you put on the outfit, the idea of being trapped in a world where you could spend the rest of your life living out your dreams and then returning back home to your regular life as if nothing had happened felt like something out of a sci-fi movie from hell. Fun in theory but terrifying in real life, how could you even begin to explain that you didn't end up here by choice, that you were just sleeping and happened to wake up here instead of your bed where you should be, were even supposed to be here?
By the time you had stepped out Key had been typing away for what seemed like hours, his fingers moving faster then what seemed possible for humans.
He swiveled around and did a once over at your outfit, a look of pride and satisfaction spread across his face as he nodded his head.
"Perfect." He chirped with approval, turning back around and opening a drawer filled with papers and stuff.
"Here," he started, pulling out what looked like a pamphlet and handing it to you. "This will tell you everything you need to know about this world and the areas you can explore along with the ones to avoid." You stood there listening intently as he explained how to get from there to the next area and where to ask for a place to stay.
"Just remember to stay on the green paths and to avoid the black areas, those are places we haven't gotten around to fixing up and you're ready to go."
He finished with a smile, as sweet as it was how accommodating he was, conflicting thoughts still swirled around in your mind like a vice, how would you even begin to figure out the world around you when you couldn't even navigate the one you came from.
"I have just one more question," you started, he nodded intently with his hands clasped together with an energy of understanding.
"How do I get back home?"
He stopped for a moment, his eyes looking around as he thought about the best way to answer.
"Well, first you have to ask for a ticket back to the real world, then you'd have to wait for the next train home," He hesitated for a moment before adding "which doesn't come for another two days for newcomers."
Before you could even respond he nodded with a simple "I know, it's ridiculous but..." he paused for a moment.
"You kind of came at a bad time, it's no fault of your own," He reassured, seeing the look of worry in your eyes. "Just, there was an incident before you came and we just wanna make sure everything's in order before we send people home, the human psyche is a delicate thing and we don't wanna do anything that could strain it."
He explained with an almost hopeful expression, doing his best comfort you the best way he knew how before looking away and digging though one of his drawers again, he pulled out a small grey ticket with white lining and details and a cursive P on the front and the back. Just as he handed it to you he pointed towards the grey train that took up the wall across to right side of the room.
"Just put in your ticket, walk through those doors and take a seat, it'll take you all the way to the hub and you can decide what to do after that." He explained with a smile before looking back up at you.
You, of course nodded and slowly walked to the trains doors, now that you were seeing the train up close you could see that there was a small slot next to the door that you could put your ticket into. Slowly you brought up the ticket to the slot to which the machine quickly sucked in the ticket with the train doors opening soon after with a beep, but before you could fully step through the doors Key called out to you.
"Wait, I know that it might seem like a lot at first but..." he began, thinking about his next words carefully.
"Just, try to give it a chance." He assured you with an earnest expression, hand clasped together a little tighter then usual.
You gave it some thought, as much as you wanted to just grab a ticket and take the next train out of here. You couldn't help but be curious about the place you had stumbled into, a world where everyone's dreams come true, it was hard not to be especially when you were all to familiar with wanting more out of life and not getting anywhere but broke and jobless.
You could give it a shot, just stay for the week and then go home the second the trains were available.
"I'll think about it, thank you."
He nodded in response, a soft smile and faint look of relief on his face as he sat back against the chair.
"You're welcome."
And with that you walked onto the train, the door closing behind you with a soft gush of wind leaving you alone again.
The train only had enough room for what looked like four passengers based on the amount of seats and space, it was quite small but comforting in a way with it's soft pink velvet seats and cute pictures spaced out on the walls and ceiling. It had the same feeling as The Pleasure Shop but more quaint, you sat down on of the one of the plush seats near the window and looked out the glass.
The ride seemed to run a lot smoother than your usual train station, however you couldn't see a thing outside for the most part. It made you wonder if you were supposed to come in on the train at first rather than through that tunnel of darkness, if so then what went wrong that made you appear in the tunnel instead, you questioned to yourself further about the differences in this world compared to yours however whatever was on your mind was cut short when suddenly the darkness outside the windows had blinded you.
You put up hand a to your eyes trying to shield them from the intrusion as you tried to get your bearings, once you had finally felt like your eyes weren't being assaulted by the sun you slowly removed your hand from your face and looked outside, and much to your surprise you weren't in the subway much less on the ground. You were in the air, moving across a large patch of land surrounded by walls of buildings, it looked just like a large plaza filled with stuff like food vendors, shops, hotels, and indoor parks and movie theaters.
It was huge, looked like it could fit a whole population of people, you almost couldn't believe what it was you were seeing. And to top it all off, there were people, not a lot but still groups of people of all different colors and backgrounds, all of them conversing with each other and walking around. Some of them were even looking up at the train you sat in and waving excited to see a new face coming in.
You hesitantly waved back as the train continued to move, circling around the large plaza giving you a small tour of what was to come before moving into another dark tunnel. You could feel the train going down slowly before coming to a full stop, the train standing still for a moment giving you time to think before opening its doors once again.

If only you knew just how much you'd come to appreciate those days when prying eyes decide to give you just what you've wished for…
The feeling of the drink was the first thing your mind noticed, it coated your tongue and throat like paint leaving an odd tingly feeling behind as it went down and then came the taste, you couldn't describe it, it was clear yet potent, strong and smooth all at the same time, the flavors swirled around in your mouth for longer then need be, confusion, delight, and disgust was all that you could feel as your mind tried to figure out what it is you just put in your body and how it should respond.
It was all so overwhelming, that was until the bliss came and washed all those feelings away, it was as if your brains data had been rewritten stopping your previous thoughts and filling you with unimaginable bliss. You hadn't even noticed when he had taken the glass away and placed it back in its container, nor when you had started laughing just that you were, and crying and swaying. You didn't notice most of these things, how could you when it felt like you just took a drug that didn't even exist yet with the world's current technology.
It didn't take long till you passed out, your head falling forward and hitting the bar table as the rest of your body quickly went limp.
The man behind the bar just continued to stare for a few minutes before lifting his arm once more and gently pressing his metallic wrapped finger against your head, tapping you to see if you were still concise.
No movement...
For the first time since you arrived he genuinely smiled...
By the time you came too you were already in another place, it was dark again but not so much to the point where you couldn't see two inches in front of you like the last place, no instead it was more ambient similar to that of a subway station but clean and futuristic like the bar was but less empty, and more lively in a way.
Instead of sleek white it was a glossy grey, with little white lights that illuminated pictures instead of just the room, it seemed cute, in a clean type of way but cute nonetheless.
There were images everywhere, but they looked more like holograms then actual posters and paintings, both pixilated or high definition all of them leading to what looked like subway doors that would open whenever someone went through them, if there was anyone...
Maybe it was because it was late, but you were slowly starting to notice that there was literally no one else here except for you and that robotic bartender Key. Nonetheless you pushed foreword, anxious to get to the bottom of this odd dream, hallucination, whatever it was, you needed an explanation.
Preferably from someone that doesn't give you the heebie jeebies...
As you got closer the subway doors opened with a soft gust of wind flying towards you revealing the room that laid before you, it looked exactly as you thought it would, just like the music video it was a mixture of an office and small subway station, if the subway station was a small room and there was only one train all the way across the room to the right of you that looked like a funicular railway designed to look like of y2k kids dream train, with all the stickers and pictures.
That was about the only outlier, the rest of the room was basically one on one with the music video, minus the people. Well, minus all but one person, but at this point you weren't sure anymore...
At one of the desks sat your bias Key or at least what looked like him, messing with what looked like a picture of a cat adjusting it and changing the hue and brightness of the image with a frustrated expression on his face and some futuristic looking glasses on. Somehow that scene alone was enough to put you at ease considering the last interaction with someone that looked like Key but acted so different that it felt odd, uncanny.
The second you stepped through the doors you heard a soft robotic women say,
"Welcome to the pleasure shop"
"Just like the music video" you thought, that thought was cut short though when the man looked up from his work looking around the room until his eyes landed on you, just then giving you an excited smile.
"Welcome, come in come in." He ushered with his hand in a downward motion, putting down his pen and lifting his glasses into his hair and beanie.
It didn't take long for you to come forward, the subway doors shutting softly behind you as you walked in, already this room looked and felt a lot more comfortable like someone actually worked there instead of an almost empty isolating room this place was filled with stuff, all of it cybernetic and popping with some type of color, not much color but enough to balance out all the grey.
He looked up at from his seat with his hands clasped together on the desk as if he couldn't wait to work with you.
"Hi i'm Key but most people just call me The Designer, what can I help you with?"
He recited, this is obviously something he says everyday and yet somehow he says it with such joy that it's hard not to feel excited yourself, however you had to stay on track, where was this place, how do I get back home, how did I get here in the first place were all the questions you wanted to ask. However you would most likely end up scaring him off with the sudden rush of questions, so you decided to just start small...
"Hi, um I don't know myself I kind of just woke up here."
He nodded, listening intently to your words his clasped hands holding up his head by his chin.
"Okay, well it seems like your new to this so let's start with your ID first."
You nod, eager to get this whole thing over and finally get some answers, Key reached across his desk and pushed over what looked like one of this blood pressure machines you'd see at the clinic however it was all decorated in the same stuff the decorated your arm, except for the added LEDs and stickers.
"Just put your arm into here and we'll check your ID, okay?" He assured, looking up at you with a comforting smile.
You nodded and slowly stuck your augmented arm in the machine, slowly the machine began to buzz and glow as it powered up and although you were expecting nothing crazy but still on edge you watched the machine closely as only continued to power up slowly and in waves that seemed stronger then the last which only added to your anxiety, until finally it stopped now just constantly humming and glowing.
Key had been watching closely up until he saw your shoulders release the tension that had been keeping them hiked up to your ears, moving back with a relieved smile he stays in the office like chair wheeling around to the other side of his desk, pressing a button which reveled a holographic screen posed like a computer and began to type things into the system, scrolling through all types of things, stuff you wouldn't understand even if you could since it was all in what looked like a mix of Korean and gibberish.
"Okay, it looks like you're all good so far I just need to tweak some things if that's okay?"
He reassured, glancing over to you as you nodded.
"Yeah, that's fine."
He nodded giving you a small smile before turning his attention back to the screen, the sound typing and scrolling along with the buzzing of the machine seemed to fill the air as Key continued to clear up some of the stuff on your ID leaving you with your thoughts.
To think just hours ago you were in bed sleeping, expecting to wake up with the loud blaring of your phones alarm playing Shinee's Married To The Music album, and get ready for work when instead you wake up in some dark abyss tunnel followed by the most uncomfortable 30 minutes for your life in a bar almost too clean to be a bar with some weird stuff on your arm called an ID. And now you have to come to terms with the fact that you might be crazy and belong in an asylum or have truly been pulled into a different dimension.
Luckily you're pulled out of your thoughts by the sound of Key's chair rolling over to power off the machine, by the time it shuts down fully you carefully take your arm out and look at it. Something about the augmentation has changed, you can't tell what it is exactly but it looks a lot more tightly formed, less chaotic if that makes sense as if it's fully formed itself to your size.
"I switched some things around and fixed a couple of bugs, the code was a mess when you came in."
He explained with a proud expression, he must've noticed you staring at your arm like it grew three more fingers.
"thank you."
"You're welcome."
He smiled, he lifted his arm and looked at his watch, his lips scrunched up as he did the math in his head before looking back up at you still holding his watch as if he just remembered that you were there.
"Did you want anything else, like a hair change, body augmentation?"
He waited expectantly, as if hoping for you to ask for more work.
You looked down at yourself and although you were insecure at times you would rather keep the body you had at the moment then play god with technology you didn't understand, however you did notice that you were still in your pajamas and as comfy as they were it'd be nice to have something different if you were going to be meeting new people every time you woke up and entered a new area.
"uh yeah, could I get some clothes. I'd just rather not be in my PJ's before I move on."
You asked shyly, still getting used to the whole talking to people that looked and acted like your bias,
"Yes, of course just wait here and i'll get some clothes for you."
You nodded, and watched as he got up and walked towards the back of the room and opened up a false door which led to a room full of clothes, some flashy and bold while others were more chill and comforting and some inbetween.
It seemed like you were gonna be here for a bit, or at least until The designer was sure that you were comfortable enough to move on to whatever was next...
