many families have their secrets. the drakes have one too.
an arranged marriage for janet and jack, both descendants of dragon bloodline in a bid to awaken their dormant blood. not that the two were happy about it considering they wanted nothing to do with magic. they were several generations down the line from the last ancestor who could transform into dragons. being magic-less in magic community sucked and they wanted no part of it. it was why they moved to gotham after all. the last place any magic being would want to stay, a thrice cursed land that not even dark mages want to meddle with. unfortunately against their wishes, their child is born a true blood dragon. thus they conspired to hide their son away from their relatives. tim drake mustn't leave gotham. no magical beings in gotham means no gossip. no gossip means no one knows about the existence of a young dragon. and that's exactly what they want.
but because their bloodline is dormant for several generations on both sides, janet and jack barely had any clue on how to raise a young dragon. an accidental fire sneeze on a pure human is a degree burn. and they didn't react well. tim drake grew up alone for the most part. caretakers were paid a hefty sum to ignore oddities and to keep silent. once tim grew old enough (not enough) to take care of himself his parents dismissed the caretakers.
janet and jack still had their jobs elsewhere and had to leave for long periods of time. their type of business didn't do well in gotham so they need to leave every once in a while. they do call their son once in a while but to hide his existence from their own network the calls are few in number, and dwindled even more as tim grew older.
tim knew he was different. his parents emphasized it so. he sneezed fire (he injured his mom-). he sheds once a year. his eyes sometimes reflect in the dark. and so forth. his parents explained to him and tried their best to help him adjust but they're just as lost as he is. the books they snuck to him (that they could get away with while not appearing too interested when they've always been known in the community for disliking magic) explained a bit but information on dragon growth was limited when they didn't have access to clan knowledge. tim knew he had to stay in gotham for his own good but he can't help but feel lonely alone in the big house.
initially he was surprised and excited to see people just as unique as him. a crocodile man! is he the same as tim? a lady who can control plants! is she a dryad like what he read in books? they weren't nice but they're just as different as him. stalking them from afar inevitably led him to stalking the bat too.
his life was mostly boring aside from his batwatching hobbies. then jason happened. then he couldn't help but push himself into helping the bat out because he grew to like batman for trying to keep peace (just like the guardian dragons he read in the books with their role in keeping peace with the magical folks! except he was pretty sure batman is non magical even if he acts like he can bend shadows to his whim) keeping his secret is second nature to him by now. he's human.
then thing kept happening and somehow he ended up in the bat family. he became the next robin. it was only supposed to be temporary. until it wasn't.
jason came back. he was but also was not surprised. magic is real. jason wasn't happy. tim could understand that. jason hated tim. tim never got the chance to give it back to him with all the interruptions. tim decided he need to educate himself more about magic. there's got to be some answers on the internet.
he set up a fake username, reroutes through a few VPN because he's part of the bat clan now and it never hurts to be careful. he discovered online magical community. he absorbs everything he can.
shadows clung to his form. he can't remember whether his scales were always pitch black or whether it used to be another color. his eyes were iciest blue, the same as his mom. but as he grew older his eyes slowly changes into pupil-less white expanse that glows like car headlights. or perhaps like the cowls and domino masks of all the bats and birds in the clan. he maintained himself the best he could with trial and error. the magic forums helped. tips on managing scales, fire breaths, etc. not everything but it helps. he needed a way to import magic ingredients into gotham. the regular magical courier services don't ship into gotham.
jason is definitely cursed. lazarus pit or rather cursed fountain of youth is known among the magical community but in a hushed manner. tim needs to up his credibility and skills to gain access to more information. it would be an interesting challenge to become the magical community's version of O. tim wants to break Jason's curse. it tastes awful now that tim is starting to learn how to taste magic. gotham is filled with darkest magic sludge like a tangible pollution now that tim learned to separate his human and dragon senses.
no one has figured out yet that tim is not human. he didn't think bruce would be too happy once he knew. tim is perfectly happy to remain 'human'.
old old draft that I never finish. if i ever get around to finishing it I'll post the new one later (Azu is me, along with several other names scattered around somewhere)
DP- KHR AU? not sure where I'm going yet but the flames are interesting (khr = katekyo hitman reborn)
(might reorganize this later if I have more ideas to make it at least a one shot) very much not beta'd, I also haven't reread this yet

when danny first fell out of the portal they were too busy being relived that he's still alive to question how he survived. then after that it was just a series of ghost attack and well, the present is always calling for their attention than something in the past that wasn't exactly broken.
by the time it started changing his appearance, they've chalked it up to the ectoplasm bleeding over to his human form. sam brought over the right colored contacts and that was it. eventually the color bled into his midmorph transformation. instead of the bluish white light that triggers his transformation, a tinge of electrifying green took over the blue. he felt stronger and it took him less time to finish up fights but he attributed that to his experience. his exponential growth in strength is attributed to the difference between half ghosts and full ghosts. the only other person they could ask is vlad, but the changes weren't severe enough to approach the old fruitloop. danny had always wondered why vlad's transformation rings were black but held back his question. whatever is going with him is on the right track then seeing as his rings are getting greener with each passing day.
his eyes, previously vibrant emerald now glows as if alighted with inner flame. strangely enough, his ghost form's eyes remain the same neon green with no playful green flames.
a year and a bit into this superhero gig, danny started to notice that the changes weren't just restricted to half ghosts. it took a while to notice that it's not the trick of the light but his friends started to have inner light within their eyes. sam's eyes glowed purple when she's happily surrounded by her two best friends while Tucker's glowed sunny yellow as he talks about this new coding project he started.
even jazz was not exempted despite not being part of most of their misadventures. the gentle blue flames were encapsulated within her turquoise eyes as she tries to calm her family down after another bout of mishaps with the ghosts.
it wasn't much of a surprise then that he caught the sight of valerie's eyes glowing bright red when someone messed with her lockers again. it was only the reassurance that Valerie's not and easy target combined with his ghost sense lying dormant that convinced Danny that Valerie wasn't overshadowed.
