Chemistry in ships and animation
Thinking a bit about chemistry and that ineffable element in live-action and currently wondering if it's possible for animation to carry that same ineffability? It's just 'something' that there's in some interactions (even sometimes working against the narrative). If it's an unknown, sort of indescribable element, does that mean it can crop up in the world of... I guess the word I want to use is 'facsimile'; can it be replicated?
I wonder if it's the sort of thing you can convey through voice-acting and, well, animated characters onscreen.
Because I feel like this
immediately comes to mind, especially with Christian Bale's Howl. The Howl/Sophie romance transcends the monster romance element that is in itself interesting to me. There's just something there that makes it unique. I don't know what to call it!
I saw one actress describe it as like coming into character - in the presence of another actor she worked with, she 'became' her character (this is Pam from The Office). I think that's probably one of the most fruitful angles to work from. One character fully becoming themselves in the presence of another.
