Destcember 10th 2018-Prompt #23-“Royalty”
As Cassus inserted the offering once again three weeks later, the throne room carried a heavy aura of mourning and dread. Mara stood above her window to the outside, staring at the havoc the curse was unleashing upon the city once again.
“You know, the Taken war never ended for us...” Mara said, deep thought in her voice.
“I’m well aware. But, then again, you never told me of your plan to fix this or fight them, so I couldn’t help.” Cass spoke.
“The Vanguard needed you. Plus Savathûn is cunning. If she knew you had outside help, she would have changed tactics and maybe brought Xivu Arath into her plans.” Mara countered.
They sat in silence for a good twenty minutes until she spoke again.
“How did my brother die?”
Cass lowered his head. “He killed my best friend. Unleashed the Barons of the Scorn. Assaulted the Watchtower. Let them into the Dreaming City. All for you apparently. So I shot him in the head.” He said, spite filling his voice.
“Funny. You’d think I’d care more about his death.” Mara said. “Instead, all I feel is indifference.”
“You don’t trust me, do you?” Cass said.
Instead of objecting, Mara leaned on the bannister barring us from the scrying pool.
“As the war started, control became harder and harder to maintain. Fighting the Taken was going to require me to say and do things that o one would be proud of. Sacrifice people, keep secrets, deal hands that otherwise would break people. You, of all people, should understand how difficult it is to fight a war like this. Our enemy is several steps ahead of us at all times. Now, even with all of my oversight, we are stuck in a time loop that I still have no idea how to break...I could never get you involved in such things.” Mara said, solemnly.
Cass was not surprised. Still... “And no matter how much I try to help, you’re not going to allow me to. Outside of obviously slaying Riven a few months ago.”
“I’m sorry...I have to keep this circle tight. You also have been touched by the darkness. All the more reason not to allow you.” Mara said.
The stars hummed in the distance. This realm was leaps and bounds above the hellhole Oryx had made it to be.
“Then this isn’t going to work, is that what you’re saying?” Cass concluded.
“...I’m sorry...once this war is over, maybe we can work this out. Do continue to update me about your wearabouts, but I know you. And I know you need someone to tie you down. Find him. Or her. Your sexuality confuses me.” She laughed.
As he exited the Oracle, depression set in.
“I’m sorry, Cass.” Sapph comforted.
Without even a second to mourn the death oh his relationship, immediately a voice came through his comms.
“Well, look who it is. I never did see a more beautiful man appear on my HUD! Wanna help me clear out these scorn or are you just gonna stand there?”
In an instant, all sadness was immediately gone because I knew who’s voice was flattering me.
“Was that a challenge, Shiro?”
