hello? where the fuck am I?
Story time. I didn't have a lot of friends growing up (for myriad reasons that I can expand on later). Some of the first friends I made was a part of a group of people that seemed more like...awkward co-minglers of likeminded interests...We were all straight edge, goth, emo, overly obsessed with fishnets (example of me below in said story), and Rocky Horror Picture Show. Most of the people in the group had gone to high school with one another, and I was the only person in the group that had been homeschooled. I got looped into the group because I was wearing an AFI t-shirt, and they thought I was someone from their school that I was not.
In any event, fast forward like six months, there was a Pan Asian eatery that none of us had been to that we figured we'd go try. Now, mind you, up to this point I knew next to nothing about social customs, 100 on a 10 point scale for awkwardness, and, most importantly, had never consumed wasabi.
Well, a dozen of us went. And wasabi came with everyone's order. And everyone was like "I don't like wasabi," but I was like "it's green, looks tasty, I love wasabi already!" So, I took this giant ass glob of wasabi and shuffled that shit into my mouth like it was the best goddamned candy I was about to consume.
Like, everyone was conversing amongst eachother, and I was just sitting there having a Larry David moment for each time I thought it would be a good time to jump into said conversations. Which is to say, I overthought to the point of non-participation because I didn't know how to people.
But I shit you not, somehow the fear and loathing in my mouth channeled psychic thoughts to all other eleven people at that table that said "this motherfucker just downed ever last bit of wasabi at this table." In unison, all stares.
It was one of the worst decisions I've ever made in my life. Yeah.
Turns out, I don't like wasabi either.
Here is a picture of me right before that fateful moment in which I learned that green does not mean good (this is approximately 2006/2007).
The first time I “fell in love” wasn’t really like a falling sensation. It was more like walking into a lamppost. It was clumsy, and disorienting, but also funny, and genuine, and real. The real falling sensation came when it felt as though the love dissipated.
Some person I just met: “How do you do?”
Me: “How do I do what? 🤔”
Listen, I don’t always say things like “that’s dope as hell,” but when I do, I just do. And when did I say it last? Why, today, in fact, to the president and CEO of an agency that wants to partner on some big things. I said it to him, and his two partners. To be fair though, we were talking about nerd hobbies. Like, how I helped build a telescope and calibrate a permanently attached CCD camera to it, and his was a national award on something to do with bugs.
Personally, I am a fan of genuine excitement. I’m more interested in your raw, unfiltered thoughts and feelings, than I am your masked attempts at social Jiu Jitsu. I’ll trust you more.

Teacher: Ticks are horrible I can't handle them
Friend:Idk I know they are gross but I love parasites
Me:Yes, Ticks are beautiful...just like children.
